Polkadot.js translation: Arabic

_Important notice: if you would like to receive the bounty, do not start translating before you get approved to start work!_

Step 1: Open the Polkadot.js translation page at https://polkadot.js.org/apps/#/settings/i18n and select _ar_ for Arabic.

Step 2: Choose the module you would like to work on. There are a total of 25 modules, which all have to be completed in order to satisfy the requirements for a full bounty payout.

Step 3: Start translating! Complete all the strings for all modules (in total 25). The bounty will be paid out only if all strings for all modules are translated. Please do not submit partial translations.

Step 4: Once you are done, select “Generate translation” and download the .jason file.

Step 5: Make an update to the translation json file in the _ar_ folder on this page with a PR: https://github.com/polkadot-js/apps/tree/master/packages/apps/public/locales

Step 6: Submit your work on Gitcoin and collect your bounty!

Very much interested in doing this repetitive task. Even though I'm not a native Arabic, I can use Google Translate to translate the terms and sentences, if that's applicable. I can finish this without much delay.
2) lotfy2 has applied to start work _(Funders only: approve worker | reject worker)_.

Hello
I will be happy to cooperate with you .

thanks im working on it, will submit when i finish it

hey @Web3Foundation here it is my version of translation to AR. plzz approve my work so that i might submit. thanks
translation AR.zip

@hamzaghz I dont think they can take your work unless you are approved
it happened to me on a different issue and someone who was not approved submitted work and the funder approved it which I saw as unfair
if @alsayadii does not submit his work they will approve someone else, it's the rules

Yes. Will leave this to @Web3Foundation , but unless the work item and author is approved by them, I sadly cannot accept any translations or PRs here.

why not approved every one and the first to submit will be chosen ?!

When it comes to bounties here, it is not the way approval-based Gitcoin process works or is intended to. To make sure people don't have wasted/duplicated effort and that the repo bounty/owner does not need to play referee right at the end, it really needs to be on an approval basis. So here, as indicated in this issue description we don't work on a contest basis.

This is NOT a race to "be first" - this is about getting the basis right on the first round and then being able to maintain it going forward alongside the rapid-fire changes that goes into each day, week and release. So a part of the approval process is also looking into the future since the initial bounty is only one a small part of the puzzle.

If an approved worker does not complete or drops out for whatever reason, it is re-opened for acceptance. Here is the summary from https://gitcoin.co/how/contributor -

Hello again, Thanks for the clarification @jacogr but i am still wondering why approve this person and not another; that's difficult since you can't know who is the perfect profile to achieve the work?
Btw I see that @alsayadii doesn't respond since three days and I already finished the work. pls consider my efforts and approve my candidature so that i might submit instantly. Thanks again :D

@hamzaghz I did the work as well lol, but then realized that it needed approval
Thus, @jacogr will wait for @alsayadii to submit, if he does not, he'll approve whomever he seems fit for the task.

He is part of the Polkadot Ambassor programme that has been activity in the community since day 1. Additionally he has done a number of translations that he has shown that he is maintaining with updates. So as a "once off" could maybe move fast, as a long-term process, a known member that applies to this is always better.

For instance, saw that with some other translations - great effort initially, but it has not been maintained since the original translator does not actually use the software itself, so discrepancies never appear and "tweaks to context" are never done.

Like I explicitly said - in my world, this is not a once-off. This is the start of a process where I expect the translator to be actively involved going forward and continue to contribute (without bounty, the bounty is just a token, generally we actually use tips on Kusama to reward active and ongoing contributions)

PS: The translations are not driven here by me, so my trust lies in the process via the W3F to pick the right candidates. Not involved with selection, additionally I have no way of actually properly evaluating the submitted results. My only feedback to the W3F on this is with the ongoing stuff.

@gitcoinbot @Web3Foundation @jacogr
this is the last time I report here, but since I have been a blockchain dev for over two years and am a Lebanese citizen, I am natively proficient in English, Arabic and French. I would love the opportunity to work on this issue; and since my country is going through an economic crisis at the moment I would even do it for less than 150 DAI. Thank you in advance

@nightwolf3 thanks for chiming in, wed love to consider you for future work and anyone can join the ambassador program which helps open these opportunities like this. https://polkadot.network/polkadot-ambassador-program/ I’ve also pinged Ahmed for an update as he should get back ASAP if not we can consider the prior work done by others for this one. Regardless would love to have you stick around and be around for more opportunities!

@Web3Foundation Alright thank you very much I will register for the Ambassador program.
And I will stick around for sure!
Thank you for your work

@alsayadii Waiting for your PR / submission still; let us know if you're not able to do it for some reason.

@Web3Foundation @jacogr Hello again
Since @alsayadii seems unavailable can I get approval and work on the issue?
I have proven my efficiency in polkascan's french bounty and am more than capable of working on the French one ; I am Lebanese thus natively proficient in Arabic, French and English

@Web3Foundation @gitcoinbot @jacogr is the issue still open?

@nightwolf3 I'm not doing the assignments on the i18n issues, leaving it to @Web3Foundation to confirm since he drives the teams around this. (Timezone is US-based there, so just be patient for slightly longer)

oh alright sorry, it's just that the current approved coder took around three weeks and received a warning for abandonment. I hope I get approved because I am already familiar with the platform; already finished the french bounty and on my way to becoming an ambassador. Thank you

100% - no need to appologize, it is always good checking in :)

@nightwolf3, waiting on a response from @alsayadii for another day here; by tomorrow if we've heard nothing, glad to approve you for this one.

alright thank you very much, it's been 16 days I was actually surprised that he hadn't tackled the bounty lol

I wanted to add as well, if you need polkascan to be implemented in arabic since I already completed a bounty for French, I could do it after I am done with this one

@nightwolf3 we'll approve you to start work on this bounty now, we are working to find a curator too on double-checking work as @alsayadii hasn't communicated back with us.

Will start working on it immediately

Hello @Web3Foundation I am Arab native speaker and will ensure a relevant translation of your files. Hope I can help you with this!
@nightwolf3 I meant for ensuring '' a double-checking translation''

@jacogr @Web3Foundation @gitcoinbot I am almost done will make a PR by midnight; sorry for the delay but we've barely been getting electricity here lol

Hello
I had issues since data is not saved in polkadot and thus need to keep the tab open; other than the occasional crash and such. So I'm working on an editor and copying/pasting them - btw when typing an English word for lack of any formal Arabic term, the format is ruined and the English term in polkadot.js.org is sent back to the start of the line so that's setting me back a bit. Sorry for the delay but it's gonna be done by tonight hopefully. cheers

No problem @nightwolf3, thanks for the updates!

Yes I am I will make a PR tonight. Thank you for understanding but we are barely having any electricity in Lebanon so it has been kind of hard. Thank you in advance

Happy to merge partials as the work progresses - don't feel forced to get everything in at once. This is a marathon. not a sprint.

Hello
Yes I know but I am almost done, need around 3 hours just double checking some terms. Again sorry for the delay but electricity has been a HUGE issue here for the past month

Happy to merge partials as the work progresses - don't feel forced to get everything in at once. This is a marathon. not a sprint.

I submitted 11 .json files so far, I'll take your advice and marathon them tomorrow

uploading the rest today @jacogr @gitcoinbot @Web3Foundation

Hey @nightwolf3 How is your progress on this? Let us know once your are done, happy to make the bounty payout!

Hello
I am almost done, still have 3 .json files left, working on them as we speak
I want to thank you and @jacogr in advance for the opportunity and sorry about the unfortunate delay, but the country is in an economic crisis so we are getting around 4 hours of electricity per day.

bad excuse

  1. @nightwolf3

@web3foundation please take a look at the submitted work:

  • PR by @nightwolf3

@gitcoinbot @Web3Foundation @jacogr are the files up to par?
Please inform me if anything is missing or needs updating.

I still need to combine them into a single translation.json file (as what was done for the last tranche), will do so as soon as I have a gap. So as per the previous round, your PR will be replaced with one that is combined and includes the previous lines which have already been combined and de-duped.

I wanted to delete my old PR and submit all 26 .json files at once but since you worked on them partially as you said ; marathon not sprint I made the PR with the remaining

Something is very weird with that Pr - there is just duplication after duplication. See for instance page-contracts.json - it just has stuff from other areas.

Something is very weird with that Pr - there is just duplication after duplication. See for instance page-contracts.json - it just has stuff from other areas.

let me check again, should I delete them all and simply push the 26 json?

Does that contain everything in one?

If you have one that is combined, that is the easiest. (Since it is a manual process otherwise to copy all in and the de-duplicate afterwards)

Does that contain everything in one?

I thought you needed them all into separate files at first
should I copy paste all .json contents into one?
yeah I can copy paste them all into one file called translation.json

Something is very weird with that Pr - there is just duplication after duplication. See for instance page-contracts.json - it just has stuff from other areas.

I just noticed that it's really weird,
wait
I generated EACH file separately
like I did a generation of each file when on polkadot hence why
my browser was causing malfunctions so I had to generate each manually
will fix and upload the 1 translation.json in an hour or less even sorry for the inconvenience

No issues, when you are ready. I understand very well that these take up a lot of time, so the effort is really appreciated.

no it's my pleasure I just hadn't noticed that I had to have them all into one at first, cause there wasn't a way I could save them. No worries will be done in an hour tops, just need to copy paste etc...

If there are duplicates, don't worry about it - the CI build process does apply a de-dupe to it. (So make sure you don't miss some, but having a duplicate is ok)

the duplicates are in the files, since as a backup I generated a file and renamed it so the rest are in one file
but since I noticed that there are new additions to them and since they became 26 im generating one translation file. Almost done no worries friend

done
took longer than expected and good thing I double checked there are new words to be translated
hope it was worth it

@jacogr finally done
100% all the files are in one translation.json file
I had already submitted work on gitcoin so no worries

Thanks a million! The un-conflicted version is in #3318, will be merged as soon as CI is happy.

I really appreciate all the effort that went into this.

awesome!

should we close the issue now? @jacogr

I typically leave it open until the gitcoin payment is made, which take a couple of days. (So keep it one until both the PR merges and admin around it is done, just easier to keep track)
