Antennapod: played episodes are removed automatically

Created on 14 Mar 2019  路  16Comments  路  Source: AntennaPod/AntennaPod

App version: 1.7.1 (F-Droid)

Android version: 7.0

Settings: Storage > Auto Delete: off

Expected behaviour: no episode will vanish

Current behaviour: some time after an episode is listened completely (and removed from queue) it vanishes. this is not immediately, but may be the next day.
it might get triggered on a sync?

First occured: maybe within the last update (which restructured the settings dialog)

@cybertooth1701: it's not, when you decide to disable the setting...

what do you mean by vanish? the file no longer exists on your device?

exactly. usually i manually remove episodes by browsing "recently played" about once a week. since a couple of weeks i'm noticing occasionally that all where already removed. the tricky part is, that this does not happen right after an episode is played / removed from queue.

Are they also removed in Downloads > Completed?

yes. it looks exactly like i would have deleted them on my own.

This is a feature. Look at it in the Settings.

Have you also disabled Network->Auto download->Automatic deletion?

Whole Network > Auto download is disabled.

Try to enable auto download, disable automatic deletion and then disable auto download again. Maybe the master switch is broken for some reason.

  • temporary enabled Network > Auto download
  • changed Network > Auto download > Episode Cleanup from "when not in queue" to "never"
  • disabled Network > Auto download again

what's the free space requirement for auto cleanup to kick in? (5GB available on that SD)
how often will that be triggered?

That's influenced by the episode cache size setting (on the auto download screen).

how often will that be triggered?

I don't know from the top of my head. Should only be triggered when attempting to auto download. Let's see if this fixes the problem. If it does, we need to find out why the setting is not respected.

@pille terribly sorry. First time commenting and I didn't read all the information before doing so. My bad.

negative side effect of this issue did not appear since https://github.com/AntennaPod/AntennaPod/issues/3058#issuecomment-473879443. looks like @ByteHamster is right with https://github.com/AntennaPod/AntennaPod/issues/3058#issuecomment-473877306. switching back to original config to verify...

I've noticed this behaviour, too. My workaround is to enable automatic deletion for the specific podcast, for which it happend, and then set it back to standard behaviour. Then it does not happen again.

listened podcasts of the last days got removed this morning, since i reverted to my original settings. (see https://github.com/AntennaPod/AntennaPod/issues/3058#issuecomment-474751837). so not respecting deactivated settings seems to be the culprit here.
