Antennapod: User survey

Created on 11 Nov 2015  路  7Comments  路  Source: AntennaPod/AntennaPod

To improve the website (https://github.com/AntennaPod/antennapod.github.io/issues/4), prepare for a 'Warm welcome' (#1329) and prepare for a new logo (#1281), it would be nice to start a user survey to gather some input from the users of AntennaPod.

This survey could cover the following topics:

  • Feature usage frequency
  • Most-liked currently implemented features (Ranking)
  • Most-wished not-yet-implmemented features (Ranking + user input)
  • Can we get in touch again for one follow-up survey? (e.g. for logo-vote)
  • User-profile: country, age category, amount/situation of use, visual/hearing/other handicap that might limit usage
  • Feedback/comments (Open text field)

For data collection we could rely on a Google form or a Qualtrics, SurveyGizmo or Opina survey, or try to self-deploy a survey using LimeSurvey

What are the next steps here?

Hmm. I guess a principle go/no-go from the developers based on current topics list and some initial feedback on the topic list, before I would start drafting a questionnaire. (Also because you'd have to implement some notification in the app itself to all users)

Go.
Of course, the same principles that also apply on pull requests also do here. There is no guarantee that we will link the survey in the end (as we do not merge pull requests that are not up to our standards).
For example, I'm not sure what to make of "most-liked" feature or "most-wished not-yet-implemented" feature (if someone really want something, they can get in contact with us quite easily).

If we gather personal information, we would probably have to come up with a data privacy policy. Why to we gather that information, what do we do with it, how long do we keep it, who has access, what measure do we take that only a small number of people have access to the raw data... Again, not really sure what the gain is here. Apart from satisfying curiosity.

Feedback/comments? We get those through the Play Store, Twitter, Google Groups and sometimes via email. Will there be somebody going through all of them, making a list, "x people like the app"? o_O

Good point, of course, I'll make sure to address that.

See my initial remark: _To improve the website (AntennaPod/antennapod.github.io#4), prepare for a 'Warm welcome' (#1329) and prepare for a new logo (#1281)_
As I have a background in communication science, I'd prefer to base that on actual input from users, rather than coming up with something myself.

  • not everybody is on all platforms
  • not all users will actively reach out to provide valuable feedback

Sorry, I don't understand this question?

I tried to say that it might be a lot of work to analyze feedback/comments freetext. Also, only about 28% of our users speak English and about 26% German. Worth thinking about.

(I'm still planning to do this, but I'm currently working to analyse my master thesis data - which is a nice practice btw ^^)

I will just go and close this. If you still plan to do the survey, just open a new issue if you are ready :)
