Android: You should publish the source code

Motivation

Cryptographic software needs a lot of eyes.
Even if your license is proprietary, you still need to disclose the source code.

Yes, please clarify the reasons behind not publishing the source code for something you openly claim to be open-source!

Kind of a duplicate of #1 which explains why the Android app is not and will not be open-sourced.

It is a big fake claim that "You don't have to trust Cryptomator blindly, because it is open source software". Well it is not, as the name "Cryptomator" obviously includes the Android app, unless otherwise stated.

I don't mind paying for open-source app, I did it several times. But I mind paying for a closed-source app claiming to be open-source. One cannot trust blindly a closed-source application for so many valid reasons, and that's especially true about encryption-related applications. I don't think I will use Cryptomator then. I might create my own app, which will be truly open-source.

Its time for a change of this way. This could open a lot of projects to include more of your services into mobile devices and should not effect your business-plan.

Yes, it's on our roadmap to open-source the app. I can't say much about when it's ready but that's actually our own plan as well.

I disagree that it's a fake claim to say that Cryptomator is open-source. The Desktop app is completely open-source and the encryption is publicly documented. In fact, you could write your own mobile app based on the open and public information. Of course, the Android app is a different app than the Desktop app BUT it can't have a backdoor in the encryption scheme because it inherently uses the same encryption scheme. Yes, of course there are other types of backdoors and it's all right to be a skeptic about it.

But yeah, not much to argument here since we're on the same page that we'd like to open-source the app.
