I have been unable to find any reference to S3 being an option for Android; is this on the roadmap?

PIng to keep this request open.
Thanks for this feature request but it's a duplicate of #29 and nothing changed, Amazon still won't allow us access to their API.
Amazon Drive is not the same as AWS S3. S3 does have an API: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/API/Welcome.html
It is indeed a duplicate. Not of #29, though but of issue 110 instead. Which is closed as well, because it was ignored too long.
And it's indeed worth noting that Amazon S3 and Amazon Cloud Drive are totally different things.
Amazon S3 is _very_ open for development (because they directly charge for everything) and Amazon Drive is another end-user layer on top of that, which should be more "DropBoxy".
Please inform yourself regarding those two and reopen one of the issues.
Thank you in advance!
There is also an issue for the desktop client #187.
I am also looking into an Amazon S3 option (which would support other object storage providers like Backblaze B2, MinIO, ... as well). While it offers an awesome API and many more benefits, it is an _object_ store and not a _file_ store. Thus metadata like permissions, preserving last modified etc. are _not_ supported.
