Android: Store changes on files opened with Cryptomator back to the cloud

Created on 14 Nov 2016  路  7Comments  路  Source: cryptomator/android

I know this is beta, but when I open a file from cryptomator in a app, it is not synced back to the cloud. Any plans to implement that?

feature-request

More or less equal to #6 but #6 contained an error with a specific application. Thus leaving this open as feature-request and limiting the scope of #6 to the bug described there.

As mentioned in #3 we will rework the way we share decrypted data with other apps. During this we will also take this issue into account and provide a way to make updates of files work somehow. What / how we do this depends on what impact this would have on security etc. which will be analysed in detail when working on #3.

I See. If I may suggest: as I'm having a encrypted device, I wouldn't mind to have crypromator store the files in plain somewhere. Any app could read (just as on the PC).

anyway thanks for investing time in the app.

Is it possible for cryptomator to load a vault as a folder or partition on Android files system at the background, and any changes will save back to the value? That would solve a lot of requirements people may want.

Is there an ETA on when the feature of editing files will be available? The current workaround of saving a copy and re encrypting it and deleting it on the device isn't great.

I would also like to know if this is being worked on, it's been a while

This feature is implemented and will be available in the next days in a beta version 1.4.0-beta2. Here you can find more information: Cryptomator community: store changes on files opened with cryptomator directly back to the cloud

As described in the community, there is still a problem with Microsoft apps:

Currently, there is just one (big) problem left with Microsoft apps: as described in this post, we're storing the decrypted file in the internal storage of Cryptomator on which only this app has access. If opening the file using any Microsoft application (e.g. MS Word or Excel) the shared file (with read and write permission) is still read only. This is because a problem in their application and hopefully will be fixed soon . Unfortunately, there is no workaround.
If you're interested, here are some sites, which describes the problem: Link1 Link2 Link3 Link4

Will create for that a separate issue because there isn't a possible workaround, they have to fix their apps: https://github.com/cryptomator/cryptomator-android/issues/150

Currently available for testing in beta version 1.4.0-beta2. If you want to join our beta program follow the instructions in this link.
