Wire-desktop: CTRL+N not focusing on search box. (When focus is on side bar)

The whole point of keyboard shortcut is not not have to use the mouse before typing to find a contact.

The flow is completely broken to go from CTRL-N to typing

Keyboard flow is also broken going from seeing search result to writing to a contact .

Anyone expecting to use Wire as productivity tool should see this as an urgent bug.

When clicking there it move the typing to the search box but not when using the shortcut, making the shortcut completely useless.

@Transisto which version of wire-desktop are you using and on which operating system? I can't reproduce the reported behavior on the current public version for Linux.

I cannot reproduce your issue on Wire 3.6.2908 for Windows. Tested with Windows 10 and when using the "Ctrl + N" shortcut then the search input opens and gets a text cursor / text focus.

@bennyn It happen when clicking the giant empty gray area on the left.

It's the most convenient spot to use give focus to the Wire window without triggering something by accident.

reliably.

I am a bit puzzled. How do you hit that area when using the shortcut CTRL + N?

It's when you click that area before you press ctrl-n.

It's an obvious place to click to get kayboard focus on the window

I can reproduce this on macOS (Wire 3.6.2923) by first clicking on the sidebar and then typing the shortcut (cmd + n). The search box opens but it's not focussed:

I've reproduced the problem in Debian. Control-n indeed renders a query field, but it's out of focus. But simply hitting \ puts it in focus. It's a bug but nothing urgent since tab works.

Thanks a lot for the tab trick. Found it almost impossible not click that
area to gain focus.
