Windowsserverdocs: Robocopy options need to be explained better

Created on 31 Oct 2018  Â·  7Comments  Â·  Source: MicrosoftDocs/windowsserverdocs

The document is pretty useless. I can get most of the info by running "robocopy /?". A document describing what each available switch does in detail is desperately needed.

They've only had....23 years to work on this. Give 'em some time, I'm sure adequate documentation is forthcoming any day now.

E.g. the /RH section could do with a clarification.

I'm sure that Microsoft understands perfectly, but as it happens I am not Microsoft.

Also the content of the log file needs some explanation, i.e. what is the meaning if 'Times' in the 'Total' column. The time in copied is fine, but the total is strange.

         Total Copied
Dirs : 4220 4220

Files : 24160 24160
Bytes : 55.861 g 55.861 g
Times : 65:51:12 1:56:56

/xo, /xn "Exclude older files", "Exclude newer files". Older, newer than what? Files with the same name? Some specified time?

What is a "Lonely File" ? A "Tweaked" file?

ROBOCOPY seems suited to a variety of applications. A comprehensive article with extensive examples with use cases is DESPERATELY needed. Please step up and provide a link on this page to such an article.

Another year, still no docs.
