Windowsserverdocs: No information about backup mode

Created on 15 May 2018  Â·  7Comments  Â·  Source: MicrosoftDocs/windowsserverdocs

The only thing mentioned here is that there is a backup mode, which can be used with /b. There's no information (at all) about what backup mode will do.

I believe this should be reopened if the docs are not complete. To this day I still don't know what the backup option will do. :D

True, I read some month ago, that locked files/dir like the $Recycle.Bin & System Volume Information will be handled in a special way, that they get copied too. Which normally fails because they are in use.

But it's correct, the documentation of this great tool is not really complete and could use some work.

Closing due to inactivity. Please reopen to pursue further. Thanks!

Hi! Please add a bit more description for this option what is the behavior. Thank you.

+1 I read somewhere that /b allowed you to copy files which were in use (?locked) but it doesn't copy eg NTUSER.DAT from a live system.

Fair point, the /b parameter is mentioned in the article as if everyone in the world knows what it does.

I don't see any way to reopen, but this still deserves an explanation. The lack of activity on this issue is not my fault, there hasn't been a proper response or request for additional information (which would be awkward on this specific issue anyway), so keep it open or fix the issue.
