Windowscommunitytoolkit: Connected Animation feels not fluent - animated item is snapped in place after first animation part ends

Created on 5 Aug 2018  路  6Comments  路  Source: windows-toolkit/WindowsCommunityToolkit

I'm submitting a Bug report (I searched for similar issues and did not find one)

Current behavior

The Connected Animation functionality seems to be processed in two steps and this breaks the fluent feeling:

  • first it is resized and moved a bit
  • then it is snapped in vertical direction into its final position.

This behaviour happens at least on Windows 10 build 17730. It can be reproduced with the Community Toolkit Sample App. Please see the gif below (source at https://i.imgur.com/cdcn9ix.gif):

Expected behavior

I would expect the animated element to move directly to its destination instead of having this snapping behaviour.

Minimal reproduction of the problem with instructions

  • Open Community Toolkit Sample App
  • Go to Connected Animations page
  • Click on the purple squares.
  • They first resize, then snap into position. The snapping feels not fluent

Thank you for reporting! This is a known platform regression and has been fixed in the very latest version of Windows.

In my own app, the snapping is even worse (more visible):

  • item is selected from a listview
  • item is resized while new page is opened
  • item ends up in the middle of the new page
  • the new page (out of the box from Windows Template Studio?) slides to the top (I don't know why this happens, but I notice that it also happens to pages in the Community Toolkit Sample App, or when opening the downloads/updates page in the Microsoft Store.)
  • the animated item is snapped vertically into position

I tested it. I can reproduce this bug on an Insider build too (17723). But it works fine on the latest Windows release (April Update). So, I suppose it is not related to the toolkit or maybe there was a change in the Connected Animations API.

Thank you for confirming it!

How can we best take it further from here? I know it is possible to report developer platform bugs in the Feedback Hub but I fear that it won鈥檛 be picked up there..

Hey @stmoy, wonder if you are aware of this issue? I saw this on @nmetulev 's machine the other day too.

Awesome! Thanks @stmoy, good to know it's already fixed. I am closing the issue now.
