Auto copy is an unexpected behavior that surprises users and makes them to make mistakes. Today I was watching a Video Tutorial about Wasabi when the guys saved the recovery words in the clipboard but before past it somewhere he generated a new address. Next he wanted to show how to recover a wallet and when he wanted to past the recovery words.... surprise surprise.... he pasted the bitcoin address.
Exactly the same happen to Bitcoin Daddy in one of his videos when he clicked on the Address (today called Observers) and an address was pasted automatically, one address that I think he didn't want to share in public.
Custom/Unexpected behavior should be Off by default. Advanced users/hackers can enable it.
No alternative.
I completely agree with this.
Any unexpected behavior should be off by default.
I get your point @lontivero but nobody will turn it on if it is off by default. And if you get used to it, it is a very comfortable feature. Users who got annoyed by it, can go to settings and disable it.
I would like to hear others' opinions on this.
Also, I have two alternative solutions:
How about asking the users on twitter about this? (do not post the question immediately, if yes figure out the question together)
Yes, concept ACK.
I think @molnard is right, that if its off, then only a small portion of users will turn it on, if it is off by default. At first I did not like it either since it was a bit confusing. But as soon as you get used to it (using the wallet 2-3 times) it is a very comfortable feature. I even started to expect this feature at other placees and then I realize that damn its not Wasabi it is not going to auto paste... :) So I would vote for leaving it on by default.
@molnard I think that the notification that something was copy/paste is a must too.
I agree it's a comfortable feature, but it is copying sensitive financial info into a clipboad, which some might not be comfortable using...
Maybe a notification that it can be turned off?

@molnard Users who get used to will not be affected if it is off by default because they already have it on in their UiConfig.json
@molnard and @bharmat, this is not a discussion about the usefulness of the feature (it is useful) nor how easy it is to feel confortable with it. The issue is about how this feature creates error in the way users operates, it is shocking (and shameful, at least for me) to see the reactions and the kind errors this feature enables even in advanced users.
In the latest tutorial for beginners https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1VSPaTQTJk that I watched the presenter loose the recovery words. In the real life that means that he would have lost their money.
Standards in a GUI are key for avoiding unexpected behaviors and that's exactly what we should look for. Imagine a world where every single computer program behaves differently when you click your mouse, it would be the hell.
I have the Auto Copy ON since ever but I would not impose my personal preferences on others, even in the more innocent feature.
I've raised that issue multiple times, This feature is simply ridiculous, I've never seen a single software automate copy to clipboard. Everything that erase the clipboard is always a clearly defined button.

(binance)
You're not just copying to clipboard, you're also deleting the user's clipboard. It's selfish and narrow minded not to make that action more explicit.
How about separating the auto-copy and auto-paste feature?
We can turn off the auto-copy and let auto-paste to be true by default.

While nowhere near as contentious, My argument again't auto-paste would be that someone risk clicking the address field having the wrong address filled in, go to his browser to copy paste the amount, then come back thinking he copied the right address.
I'd just use the equivalent paste button at the end of the field.
There is no consensus in the team.
@molnard are you sure about keeping it default on?
Do you have another argument other than "it's a good feature"? [which I very much agree].
The feature was discussed from several perspectives.
Do you agree with the feature auto-copy?
Do you agree with the feature auto-paste?
How relevant is our opinion about the feature versus the user experience?
I will put this question in the UX design and see how the users using this. That would be the only relevant way to measure this. Until then there is no reason to change this.
