Walletwasabi: Notify when CoinJoin is about to happen

Created on 26 Nov 2019  路  7Comments  路  Source: zkSNACKs/WalletWasabi

Problem

Currently there is no notifcation that a CoinJoin is about to happen, and a user who is up to now undecided if he should partake does not get a last minute reminder.

Solution

Throw a blue notification CoinJoin about to happen! or Imminent CoinJoin! if either

  • there are 95 peers registered
  • there are 5 minutes left on the timeout

It might give users an extra urge to enqueue their coins if he gets a notification, which will push the round through a bit faster. It's a call to action.

How about a settings option to turn this feature off?

Rather opt-in. But I don't think it's an important enough feature to justify the added complexity. Maybe a year from now we can tackle it sytemmatically with a notification settings tab or something where users can finetune what they want and doesnt want to see.

Yeah, I have so many windows open, and things going on at any given time..and I assume most users would also. Would an audio "beep" or tone be easier to implement and also be a broader attention-getter if the user is focused elsewhere when the deadline approaches?

@davterra You actually bring up a very valid point - with the new notifications, if Wasabi is in the background then you will not at all see the notification!! So I opened a fresh issue to discuss how to fix this, maybe with the audio notification as you propose #2642.

NACK, Wasabi is not all about coinjoins.

As we discussed in the meeting, there's no need to make decision on it for 1.1.10.

I said ACK on the meeting, but I change my opinion to NACK again.

If someone uses Wasabi and wants nothing to do with coinjoins, then let's not keep annoying him with notifications like this.
