I am submitting a feature request here, because the page to do feature requests does not work (https://visualstudio.uservoice.com/forums/293070-visual-studio-code).
My feature request is for a horizontal split in addition to a vertical split. Currently, you can only view tabs next to each other, but I'd like to be able to view them top and bottom. This would be especially helpful when you have files that have really long lines of code.
Duplicate of #1749.
This is not a duplicate issue. #1749 was implemented as "Horizontal split instead of vertical split". This is "in addition to". Thus not a duplicate. @kieferrm
Yes, I would also love this feature.
It would look something like:

Instead of:

It's not a duplicate. Hope my awesome ASCII art helps to see the difference. :D
I support this
@kieferrm Any update since this is not a duplicate of #1749? @tgalkowski7ninjas describes the differences well, as you can see a number of other people support and agree with. Atom does this feature well and I think it's a big selling point for coders, who often use multiple monitors with split views.
Yes, please implement mixed/grid splitting!
For now, as a workaround, one can use two windows of VS Code beside eachother with horizontal splitting to achieve a grid or mixed split views - but this has other navigation downsides.
Seconding what @Kluskey, @Justus-Maier @tgalkowski7ninjas, and @eddiemonge have said: this is not a duplicate of #1749.
This is in fact one of the main reasons I haven't switched from Sublime to Visual Studio Code.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep this on closed in favor of #14909. Please have a look there and let us know if it's not covering what you expressed here.
Was trying out vscode on a 21:9 monitor, and wish for this feature as well.
This is one of the only features that I would miss if I left Sublime or Atom and is keeping me from using VSCode
For serious Coders or Authors who multi-task this is a required feature which should at least be supported in a plugin.
I'm very agree with this request. I'm bassicaly use Atom, it's came with this grid functionality from the box. But i want to jump to VS Code, because i have a 27'' inch monitor and want to use it on 100%. I'm wonder why this in not implemented yet.
+1 guys, this is a no-brainer. Any self-respecting code editor needs to support grid splits.
This is the only thing keeping me from using VS Code
Miss this too!
Need this.
Can't stress enough how much I NEED this feature. Window management becomes such a breeze.
hmm....
+1 I hope it will come soon to us
So no update to this?

@kieferrm Could you please re-open the request and remove the 'duplicate' label? It can otherwise be very difficult to track this issue. I believe no other developers have even noticed this request.

+1, this feature would be great to have on monitors larger than full-HD!
Still my #1 reason for not changing from Atom to VS Code 馃憥
What's going on with this situation? Could the team at least hit us with a reply if you guys are working on this, if not, why? VSCode is seriously a lifesafer and I love it, but I can't be splitting 3by3, I need more.
This thread is dead. Let's open 10 more issues on this.
Well now that i started using spacemacs with Magit ... Someone would have to implement Magit in Vscode for me to make a switch 馃榿 But y'all should really push for this. So Basic. I'd plus one for the cause 馃憤
I would support such a feature! :)
Now THIS iS EDITOR!
