Vscode-remote-release: SSH-Remote Reload loop never succeeds

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Awake from sleep and VSCode::Remote tries to reconnect
2. It goes into an long loop. and never loads the workspace.

This worked until last week, but now fails from my mac. I have an Ubuntu workstation running Code 1.41.1 and it works fine.

We have DNS round-robin on our login servers, and I've been using the .ssh/config sockets work-around to make that work.

I don't know if this helps, but I was running into the same issue. I was using VS code remote on two separate machines, both using the same install directory backed by an NFS server (~/.vscode-server-insiders). I had to kill all processes on the first machine before I could start using the second machine. I think there are lockfiles that are not tied to machine-name, so there may be inter-machine conflicts when using a shared filesystem.

When you say "kill all processes on the second machine" do you mean the
server-side or client-side?

I quit all of my VSCode client sessions and noticed that I had background processes from my .vscode-server/bin directories on both login nodes, including one dated "2019" and one "Jan 6", with another set of processes from yesterday on the machine with the 2019 processes. I manually killed the jobs and I didn't get the loop again.

I'm also having this issue. It's very inconsistent and only happens some of the time, so is hard to reproduce. Not helped by running Uninstall VS Code Server from Host, or enabling ControlMaster. I tried manually killing some straggling .vscode-server/bin processes on my remote machine, and it's working now.

Code I ran on the server to identify and kill the culprit processes:

So that error Server status check failed implies that there is "something" wrong with the VS Code server on the remote such that it has stopped responding to our pings, but it would be difficult to figure out why.

This loops forever because the real reason for this check is to handle the case where the server is in the process of shutting down when we try to connect to it. I could add a retry limit and give a message that suggests running the "Kill VS Code Server on Host" command which would get you out of this situation.

I tried manually killing some straggling .vscode-server/bin processes on my remote machine, and it's working now.

Our command tries to kill those processes and was probably failing to do it. If this happens again, could you share the log from the session where you run "Kill VS Code Server on Host" (or the "uninstall" variant)

I have same problem. And I resolved it in the following steps.

1. Access remote server.
2. Remove or rename /home/{username}/.vscode-server/bin.
3. Try SSH-Remote.
