Currently they can't use machines. For example, even if they were to dash into the side room and try to change the simulation before dissipating, they can't use the holodeck control computer anyway.

I disagree that there should be an easy medbay backup that isn't constructed by the crew just in case shit goes south.
Disabling medbay is many times a round-ending action unless a backup has been prepared beforehand, but having a one-click medbay backup makes the action greatly diminished forcing the person to disable both to gain the desired effect.

a holodoc with a holoswitchtool to do surgeries and whatnot. Holocorder to analyze patients / inject tricord / apply holo-brute or burn healing. Gotta sleep a while to turn holohealing into real healing. Holo-blood doesn't exist.

It'd be nice if you can bring some real supplies to the holodeck and get an actual "doctor" rather than have a greyshirt that did a first aid course or a clown fix someone up on a table in the bar.

I would say rather than a backup medbay on the holodeck, have a projector in medbay that can be activated on a cooldown to summon a holographic doctor when there are no med staff active.
