vagrant up gives error: vm.rb:575:in `validate': undefined method `split' for 0.1:Float (NoMethodError)

I have created a box and now I want to duplicate it to another machine. I have done the following:

  • in the original box's directory:
vagrant package --output mybox.box --vagrantfile ./Vagrantfile
vagrant box add mybox ./mybox.box
  • in the target directory:
    vagrant init mybox

So far, so good.
Then I run:

vagrant up

wich fails:

Bringing machine 'default' up with 'virtualbox' provider...

I met the same symptom while tweaking my VagrantFile.

Turns out my VagrantFile had an invalid line that caused this problem:
config.vm.box_version = 0
which should be:
config.vm.box_version = "=0"

Ruby error messages can be very confusing...
