User-event: Prepare for moving to DOM Testing Library

One of the things we need to make sure is that this project isn't using React Testing Library. We're doing that with the tests a bit and we need to remove it.

I've gotten started. The one thing that won't work is the test about act, but I don't think that test needs to come along. I don't worry about the confidence there.

Anyone wanna help with this?
