Universalmediaserver: Investigate LG Smart TV detected twice

Created on 26 Feb 2020  路  23Comments  路  Source: UniversalMediaServer/UniversalMediaServer

LG Smart TV is detected in UPnP Inspector twice. Once as "MediaRenderer:1".The other one is "Basic:1" with "webos-second-screen:1"-->Type "urn:schemas-upnp-org:device:Basic:1". UMS should ignore this webos/basic response to not confuse user and itself.

@SubJunk maybe @esabol should try the version 9.4.0 and send the log. That is why I implemented the #1952

I just got a LG TV a couple months ago, and I've been noticing this issue myself.

@esabol it looks like your particular issue might be fixed by us adding a new renderer config for LG OLED TVs. If I work on one can you test it?

If I work on one can you test it?

Sure!

@esabol great, can you please put https://raw.githubusercontent.com/UniversalMediaServer/UniversalMediaServer/247734c3795c96c2ecf939da37a1d3aac1fad2d3/src/main/external-resources/renderers/LG-OLED.conf into your renderers directory and try it? I made it based on the manual for the TV

Done. (Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.) Unfortunately, the presence of the LG-OLED.conf file in my renderers directory resulted in no change. My TV still shows up twice. Is there something else you want me to test?

Was I supposed to have removed the other LG*.conf files first?

No need to remove the other files, can you please upload logs?

I hope I got all of the right bits:

If I click on the the two LG TV icons in the Status tab, they both say they are using LG-OLED.conf. The one is uuid:85e3b34c-2920-a71e-afd5-e14dea332124, and the other is uuid:be9659aa-8763-9d4c-1adb-280e4b73cc98.

@esabol if you play a file on your TV, which device does UMS think is playing?

@SubJunk maybe @esabol should try the version 9.4.0 and send the log. That is why I implemented the #1952

OK, so I updated to 9.4.0, replaced the ffmpeg included therein with the ffmpeg from 9.3.1, and added the LG-OLED.conf file to renderers.

@valib that makes sense, do you have a fix in mind? Maybe if a renderer identifies as both things, we ignore the Basic one?

@SubJunk this is a good idea but I cannott find the propper place to do it.

@valib ok cool, I can have a look at it but it isn't a high priority for me, as it seems it is mostly a cosmetic problem

Same root cause of issue #1458. I propose just getting rid of the "Basic" matching entirely.

@esabol is the renderer config update in https://github.com/UniversalMediaServer/UniversalMediaServer/pull/1944/files an improvement for you or should I close that PR?

Is there something else you wanted me to test? I've been using it regularly for weeks now, and it works fine, better than the PS4 Media Player, that's for sure. I replied here:
https://github.com/UniversalMediaServer/UniversalMediaServer/issues/1929#issuecomment-610134111

Why did you replace the FFmpeg?

Why did you replace the FFmpeg?

Because the ffmpeg in 9.4.0 was broken on Macs. Remember issue #1959 ?

Ah yeah I was thinking you were testing on a newer version for some reason. Cool. I will merge that LG-OLED profile. It doesn't fix this issue so this can stay open but at least it gives better support for the TV
