uAssets 🚀 - Net Scan: 4TB All, 40TB BAB&app_vars

This scanner is just an initial prototype, I hacked it together within 30 minutes, I'll write proper automation scripts later.

OK, I'll close this for now, I'll reopen when new data become available.

The scanner currently flags BAB, anOptions, and app_vars, I definitely want to add more. Once I start spinning up clusters to boost the scanning speed, it'll emit thousands and thousands lines of result, I'm thinking about make the scanner emit filter rules directly, honestly I don't want to manually verify every result.

I scanned 30 more packages, but only found 4 BAB, looks like my initial estimate was way off.

Also, I don't know whether the domains will repeat in later packages. I need to update my scanner to keep track of it. I also want my scanner to be able to handle AdFly, IL, and more.

On top of this, I need to find a way to drain the backlog, so I'm shutting down my server for now.

AdFly is not really necessary, they all redirect through one domain, that domain changes from time to time, for example right now it's briskgram.net.
ay.gy/1mG1hI adf.ly/yiRpG activeation.com/AZrX .....
These are the first links I found googling, so I have no clue where you will end up if you don't abort the redirection, I just tested that all point to briskgram.net.

Alright, I finished scanning 1000 packages, or about 4 TB of data. It costed about 2 and half dollars, so no, the current pure brute-force approach isn't going to work. I need to spend some time to properly design a cost-efficient scanning engine that can take advantage of multiple CPU cores and spot instances.

I would assume that the website works for the author and people living in the same country as the author, he just didn't notice that it breaks for everyone else.

After many failed attempts, I finally got a cluster up and running! Be ready for more results soon 😄

I'll be running 5 large servers, hopefully I won't be hitting any network throughput limit...

Update: Eh... I already got an ECONNRESET...

Update 2: Looks like spot compute optimized instances are the way to go, about 1400 packages scanned and the costs are still less than a dollar. At this pace, it shouldn't cost more than $50 for all 210 TB of data.

I also set up some CloudWatch alarms that will tear down the cluster if something goes wrong, hopefully everything will be fine...

Update 3: Well, looks like there are a few flaws in the current design:

The worker manager should kill and respawn children that are stuck
The master should automatically retry tasks that failed / timed out
The master should not have memory leak
The master should have some sort of recovery mechanism, so it can continue where it left off
The master server should do some work, instead of basically sitting idle

A dozen workers crashed so far and one worker was stuck (for 8 hours before manual intervention, about 3.2 CPU hours lost :disappointed: ), hopefully the final manual clean up wouldn't be too bad...

It's going a bit slower than I expected, 6450 done after about 30 hours, at this pace, it's going to run until next week. Hopefully the master server will have enough memory to sustain the leak...

Honestly this is costing a lot, I'm still hesitating about whether to open source the scanning engine. If I open source it, it'll be way easier for people to dodge the scan, and I don't want to cause Common Crawl problems (I don't want to see websites starting to block Common Crawl, if the scan is an one-off thing, then probably no one will bother). If I don't open source it, this will probably be an one-off (or maybe two-off) thing and I won't be able to do the scanning again once my credits run out.

I'll have another batch of scan result tomorrow afternoon, I expect it to be around 50 500 true positives.

As far as I see, BAB scanning is pretty accurate, there's over 500 results, I don't want to test each of them...

I checked about 10 of them.

I am sorry, I wanted to atleast test the first batch today, but I will not be clicking mindlessy through obviously buggy captchas for the rest of my life, so whoever wants to test these and add the working filters, be my guest.

Edit: ##+js(abort-on-property-read.js, app_vars.force_disable_adblock) works for the first batch, but more filters could be needed after solving the captchas.
