Toggldesktop: Brand new user first time trying "Syntax error: Bad or invalid port number: 8888;https=127.0.0.1:8888"

Hello all,

I just signed up on the toggl website. There was some issues with that, but I managed to do it solely through "Signup" with google feature. Now I've downloaded the desktop app. I'm trying to "LOG IN WITH GOOGLE". I press the "Allow" button and get to a page that says "Received verification code. You may now close this window."

The first time I did this and looked back at the "Toggl Desktop" window I saw a red alert-bar with the message "Syntax error: Bad or invalid port number: 8888;https=127.0.0.1:8888". In addition I was still on the sign-in view.

I dismissed the alert bar and tried again. After authorizing the application nothing happens on the desktop app (including no alert-bar).

Any ideas where I can start troubleshooting?

Please make sure google login is enabled in the web app profile view. If it is enabled try to disable and re-enable it to see if this fixes the issue for Toggl Desktop. If the issue remains please specify your operation system version so we can look more into it.

I am using Windows 10 Home. I'm sorry but I don't know what you mean by "the web app profile view." However I tried it again today and it seems to work.

Hi there,

it seems an obscure bug but I have a very similar behavior. Sorry for commenting on such an old issue. Running Win10 (Toggl 7.4.35), I've tried to reinstall Toggl and cleared cache but no luck. Login screen shows the spinner for a few seconds, then says Bad URI syntax: bad or invalid port number: 7769;https=localhost:7769. Log file below.

Any ideas, @IndrekV ? Ironically, it does work fine on Linux and Mac.

For everyone who arrives here via Google:
It's problem with the proxy. The Win10 system has a software called "Freedom" installed which modifies the proxy settings. If Toggl is set to "Do not use proxy", it does work.

Hi @jeanettebautista. Are you using a proxy or some software that sets a proxy for you?
Have you tried "Preferences->Proxy->Do not use proxy" in Toggl Desktop?
