Taiga-front: Notifications in Tiaga Front

Created on 18 Jan 2016  路  23Comments  路  Source: taigaio/taiga-front

As a user, I would like to have a notification system in place that lets me know when a user has added a comment designated to me (my username used in the comment).

For example my coworker sent me a comment, but there isn't a notification for this in Tiaga, only via email.

Do you all have something like this in place besides a notification via email?

+1 In my busy collaborative world, an on-screen notification display is a fundamental requirement. This could be by label/badge on the top bar or side-menu, leading to a time-ordered list of notices, perhaps, or a dashboard panel, or both.

Hello @domtyese

Thanks for the feedback, actually the notification system only works via email. Where would you expect to see these notifications?, in an existing area of Taiga or a new one?

+1 email is a disconnected old-school way of notifying if you are intensively collaborating on a project and live in the PM interface a lot of the time. Other PM software I have used has an alert area always visible on the interface that alerts when something new for me occurs on something I'm following or own and is a really good bit of UX workflow.

I would love to have a notifications dropdown, like in many social networks. With a full history of notifications, but indicating which ones are "unread"/"new".

I would totally love this feature! Is it somehow possible to hook the email notifications?

Hello,

Is there any progress on this task? It would be amazing to be notified (probably via firefox/chrome/safari API ?) if there is a new comment on a task im either assigned to or following, etc...

Hi @theriverman

No, we haven't worked on it yet, sorry :(

Thanks for the heads up, @jespino !

High priority feature IMHO, email notifications is un-manageable.

@jespino I'm available to help on this development.
We could use https://github.com/django-notifications/django-notifications

I don't know for others. As for our team, those kind of desktop notifications (#1277) are of few interest.

What we lack is:

A way to differentiate a ping from a ticket status change based on the notified email's title

When receiving emails, based solely on the title, we don't know easily whether we receive the email because

  • someone closed the ticket (or whatever)
  • an automated mail was sent (github hook)
  • someone asked us a question (which needs action)

I believe live notifications read/unread address the pb because the content of the notifications is directly accessible to the eye and so we can filter out "automatically" what are the interesting notifications.
But live notifications are not a must to address the "pollution"

at least for our team.

We will probably add some email rules to categorize the taiga mails but I believe the key point is to ease distinguishing whether the (email or live) notification is a ping or not

This to me is a priority, we are actually using taiga as a tryout for our business, and the absence of this feature is a show stopper for us. We really like the product otherwise. I found this information while looking at making the basic email notification work. For the moment it doesn't. (I will look a bit more create a ticket if I don't find a solution). We will stick to it for the moment as the team is not huge yet. But there will definitively be an end to it if the feature is not in the pipeline.

Same for my (paid) team here : having notifications is a real need. Our purpose using such tool is to escape from checking our e-mail account.

For me and my team a notification system is a priority as well. Something like @losttheplot has mentioned or how we have with Trello. Please, give this issue the attention with deserves.

Looking forward to this feature as soon as possible in early 2018 as well.

We use Taiga with my team and linked its activities to a Slack channel because email is not an option, but even though Slack is not ideal due the constant spam by the bot.

Much needed feature. Very useful to keep the team informed in real time.

Hi @maknahar & @IwishIcanFLighT this is ready and will be included in the next release (#1277)

Hi @alexhermida
In which form can we see the implementation? Desktop notifications? Is it this feature?

Hi @woistjadefox
If I'm not mistaken, it sports the pretty common "Browser Desktop Notifications" API:
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Notifications_API

Hi @theriverman
Yes this is right, but I don't know how well the nature of browser desktop notification plays in the hands of a project management tool. When you compare this feature to the notification system in Basecamp for example. There you have a pretty good overview of the unseen notifications at a central view on the website, from which you can go through your unseen notifications. As far as I know, Chrome for example is not offering a notification history window. And even if so, then it would mix all the different notifications from all websites together.

Hello @woistjadefox, as @theriverman commented current implementation is browser desktop notifications. We are working to implement notifications area towards next release TG-3752

Desktop browser notification is a much needed feature to an already amazing platform.
From my understanding, if I tag someone with "@", there is no way they can see it unless they go to that specific comment, right?

I think this is still the case. Is there any way to activate a notification for comment tags in the internal notification / event section where the ring bell is on the top right?
