Tachiyomi: I have a problem with reading vertically (manga viewer)

Created on 13 Oct 2018  路  14Comments  路  Source: tachiyomiorg/tachiyomi

I don't know if this happens only to me but when I scroll vertically in the viewer, the panels starts from the center and I have to scroll up every time, tried to change the zoom start position and tweak other settings (like changing the zoom start position from automatic to right) , it helps but when I scroll a little bit fast, it starts skipping pages (just shows a bit of a page and skip to the next one).

I noticed this with the latest version (0.8.0), right now I'm using Webtoon view to read my mangas, it is not paged but at least I don't need to scroll up every time.

How should it be? Vertical reader is a "paged" reader so when you click or swipe to the next page it turns the page so it's gonna load the entire page. If you want a partial you might want to use webtoon

@CarlosEsco when I change to the next page, it loads at the center of the page, so I need to scroll up a bit to read from the start ( this is in my case, on vertical/landscape).

Here's the problem, I have to wait a little bit before scrolling, if I scroll a little bit fast, the viewer keeps showing a bit of the next page and then skipping it and I have to scroll back up to the skipped page and then scroll down again slowly to read it, I think this is because the app doesn't load all the pages and waits until I scroll to load the next one or something like that.

what are your settings?
few things

  1. Vertical reader snaps to the next page when you swipe/tap. Each image is a "page" so imagine you flipping a notepad page. So if you are holding on to like in the video as soon as you let go its gonna snap to the next page. Notice when you first open a chapter it starts in the middle
  2. If you dont want it to snap to the page and instead want to do a continuous scroll you need to use webtoon mode.

I think my video shows the problem better. When my phone is landscape, and I'm using vertical reader, every time I move forward (as in pages) next page starts from the middle instead of top. This wasn't the case with the old reader, so I think it has something to do with the new reader.

So this is intentional, right ? I feel like it shouldn't, the moment I scroll down the viewer just skips the page. I'd like to have a continuous scrolling like in webtoon mode but still keep boundaries between pages like in vertical mode, is this possible ? I mean like vertical mode but without skipping pages. also this problem happens in only landscape mode.

I had the same problem, fixed it by changing the zoom start position to right from settings

Here's another clearer video, the app only skips pages when the phone is in landscape mode, this doesn't happen when the phone is vertical as shown

I feel like this is a user swipe issue? How does it perform when you click to advance page?

The problem still exists, the problem only happens when I open a page and immediately scroll down to read it, the app skips the page and jumps to the next one and when I scroll down again, it jumps to the next one and so on, There's no problem when I open a page, wait a bit, and then scroll down, but it breaks the immersion when reading, knowing that you have to wait a bit before scrolling down each time so the app doean't skip the page.

Using the webtoon mode is the best choice now but it's not as good as the vertical mode

It is indeed in landscape. Positioning itself in the center of the page. Did rollback to prev version bcos of this.

Guys solution is to. Go to reader option: zoom start position to left.

Left means top if reading mode is vertical..

Also dev can write option like this to

def zoom start pos:: "left (top in Vertical) "

Option is obsecure.

Yea the double tap sometimes skip to next page so ihave to come back to read that one is annoying.i agree

Problem its in landscape mode, when u turn ur phone horizontal. In vertical position it scale it to the whole page and its not the issue here.

There was a bug in the zoom start = center. It's fixed now but you can use left or right to workaround the issue. Note that automatic also uses center in the vertical reader.

Also note that as long as the page fits the width, there's no difference between left, center or right.
