Synergy-core: Request for lightweight version

Problem:

Some users require only minimal features, such as copy / paste and drag & drop. Adding other features complicates the stability of the software.

Solution:

Create a lightweight version of Synergy that focuses on essential features, and does it well.

For me, file drag and drop is not even necessary or desirable. I'm a systems administrator. I just want a basic, lightweight software KVM switch that does simple text copy/paste and has correct and reliable keyboard mappings.

There are already plenty of options for file sharing. No need to bloat the the KVM switch with stuff like that.

Less bugs and resource use > More features.

Totally agree on this.
Not even the basic stuff is working for me right now, I have to restart constantly the server or the client to get them communicate again, always involved when trying to copy things or just because I moved to the server side.

Maybe other features could be added by some kind of plugin system, you want it: just enable the plugin.
Basic version: Share mouse and keyboard
Plugins: Copy&Paste support, Drag&Drop support, SSL support, aso.

+1 for every time the thing has crashed for me because of features I don't want. So, about +10000. I've had 15 server crashes today thus far. All of them related to me using Adobe apps with large clipboard data.

Ideally, we could get the following preferences:

• Enable drag & drop support
• Enable copy & paste support
• Text-only copy & paste
• Copy & paste size limit (KB/MB)

For what it's worth, I'd personally disable drag and drop, enable copy and paste, enable text-only copy and paste (images have never worked for me, only caused trouble, and I never really need them), and I'd put a ~5MB limit on my clipboard sync.

I've had a thought on clipboard. What about an option requiring a "double copy" (i.e. Ctrl+C twice on the same thing) to move data across the network?
