Is this project dead? I do have a bug to report but no point if this is not maintained anymore.

It would be a very sad day if that's the case, there's no other mature slider that has the same feature-set. Since there are many huge brands that use it, I doubt that it is dead, just not prioritised as much as before.

swiper has a very high complexity and a variety of features which can be mixed in unending ways which causes a lot of edge cases - I guess this project needs many many unpaid hours to fix all reported bugs.
you could fix the bug and prepare a good merge request - we did that in the past and they were merged. if you need the maintainer to fix them for you you might try to hire him for some hours

There are 29 pull request and they aren't merged from 2015. So not about fixing is discussion but overall check of all that work.
