Deleted my analysis - didn't realize the position posted was after some 40 moves were made - will have to dig deeper.

From my quick analysis - FEN strings do not capture repetitions - so you cannot post an FEN ( even with move counter information) to verify draws. hence it is always best to paste the entire move list with start pos and series of moves to verify draws.

FENs are not enough for 3folds, but are OK for 50mr draws, I'm thinking ? I agree that startpos + moves is better, however.
In one of my runs from the fen, a mate 101 was displayed, but not found for the next iteration.

I can reproduce the mate score with sf_10 and sf_9. So far sf_8 returns a draw.

after more testing, also sf_8 finds mate scores.. just needs more tests as the threaded search is not always finding this in a reproducible way.
also sf_7 and sf_6 report mate... so it is not something recent. Older versions are too slow to test for me.

The issue is there even with single core analysis.
The issue in the line below is 51....Kd8 as it loses . For some reason, SF does not see 51. ..Kf8 draws until the analysis get to move 48. for white and then it sees the 50 move rule draw
Just copy and paste the pgn below , start move at one and with analysis on, move through moves 1 to 51 and SF will output mate and then later says it is draw. Its bizarre.

crafty sees the 50 move draw at move 41 with one core - almost 10 moves before the 50th move - that s/b our target for now, it also output a notation '<50 move>' when it does see a 50 move draw - might be worthwhile for us to do something like that until we get it fixed

no, it is not a threading issue, something more fundamental in search, I guess. Also the problem is not that it is not showing a draw score, but that it is showing an incorrect mate score... at least I was under the impression we try to avoid returning unproven mate scores.

I think I understand that this is coming from storing mate scores in the TT that are affected by the 50mr counter (so some graph history interaction problem). I'm testing some patches that basically trust mate TT scores less. I'll update with some more info as tests complete.

no it is unrelated to TB, my testing is without.
Notice that it is not always reproducible, e.g. threaded runs might give 5 times the right result to fail the 6th. Same will hold for various versions of SF or using TB or not.

I've checked early SF versions and it seems that the issue is as old as SF1. The only engine that always finds 0.00 is Houdini.

Theoretically, you wouldn't have to store a different value for each different 50mr count, you'd need rather to store lower or upperbounds for which the position is at least this good for a given side. e.g. If you know this is a draw with a 50mr count at 40 and the weak/strong side wouldn't change with a higher 50mr count, then you cover 60 values at once.
Positions that are e.g. drawn with a 50mr count to x, won for white with y > x and won for black with z > y > x are a strict impossibility.
This seems hard to do in a way that is consistently reliable, however. And efficient, as the point of even trying this compared to just adding 50mr info for every position is to avoid making the TT 10x less efficient. (The loss will never be 100x, as the 50mr count at which a given position happens isn't uniformly distributed.)

One solution could be to apply the fix only in UCI_AnalyseMode. On the other hand it's clearly a bug which makes me think it should be applied globally even at the cost of slight slowdown in gameplay. I belive that the game linked below - from TCEC cup - was lost because of this particular bug, wasn't it?

This is correct, Stockfish lost TCEC cup 3 because of this issue.
More precisely, because of 1) its tendency of "thinking" all draws are worth the same thing, thus not minding going into the worse side of the draw ; 2) saving an eval for one 50mr count value and reusing it in hash for a position with a different value for the counter.
An issue with applying such a bugfix by default, however, is that this bug is negligible in testing conditions but the slowdown would not be (SF is already starved for more nodes at fishtest). But as the TC increase, the slowdown becomes less and less significant while the likelihood of this bug polluting SF's search in a significant way goes up.
