Spring-boot: WebSecurityConfiguration loading twice results in AlreadyBuiltException

Created on 4 Feb 2016  路  2Comments  路  Source: spring-projects/spring-boot

Using this sample project: https://github.com/spring-guides/tut-spring-security-and-angular-js/tree/master/oauth2/authserver from Spring tutorials where both @EnableAuthorizationServer and @EnableResourceServer configuration coexist, as soon as one wants to customize the Resource Server by extending ResourceServerConfigurationAdapter, either by adding another Configuration class like this:

@Configuration
protected static class OAuth2ResourceServerConfig extends ResourceServerConfigurerAdapter {

}

Or adding a new Bean like this:

@Bean
public ResourceServerConfigurerAdapter oAuth2ResourceServerConfig(){
    return new ResourceServerConfigurerAdapter() {

    };
}

The application won't start, throwing the followin exception:

org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'springSecurityFilterChain' defined in class path resource [org/springframework/security/config/annotation/web/configuration/WebSecurityConfiguration.class]: Bean instantiation via factory method failed; nested exception is org.springframework.beans.BeanInstantiationException: Failed to instantiate [javax.servlet.Filter]: Factory method 'springSecurityFilterChain' threw exception; nested exception is org.springframework.security.config.annotation.AlreadyBuiltException: This object has already been built

As a result of Spring presumably initializing Configuration class WebSecurityConfiguration twice. An assumption made by Spring executing this Bean definition twice:

@Bean(name = AbstractSecurityWebApplicationInitializer.DEFAULT_FILTER_NAME)
    public Filter springSecurityFilterChain() throws Exception {...}

I was able to workaround this problem by adding this to my ResourceServerConfigurer:

        @Override
        public void configure(HttpSecurity http) throws Exception {
            http.authorizeRequests().anyRequest().authenticated();
        }

That seems to register a new ExpressionUrlAuthorizationConfigurer<HttpSecurity>() to the configuration before the security filter chain build process actually starts.
Without registering this configurer early, once the security filter chain build is invoked, ResourceServerSecurityConfigurer is invoking:

    .authorizeRequests().expressionHandler(expressionHandler)

On its configure(HttpSecurity) method, trying to add a new ExpressionUrlAuthorizationConfigurer on filter chain that's already being built, resulting in a AlreadyBuiltException.
With the workaround, ResourceServerSecurityConfigurer uses the ExpressionUrAuthorizationConfigurer registered earlier instead of trying to add a new one.

We think this is a Spring Security OAuth issue. I've raised #948
