Spectacle: More than just halves and thirds

Feature request. Instead of working with halves and thirds, can we have two thirds, quarters and so on or whatever screen division the user specifies. Thanks.

Hi. I love this little app, and helped me soo much, but now I bought a 21:9 screen, and would be great to divide the screen into 6 parts. There is a way to use 1/2, 1/3 and 2/3 but I can't use the middle part of the screen, it only jumps to the left or the right of the screen. I can not do 1/3 left, 1/3 center and 1/3 right. Is there any way to achieve this? Thanks again!

This would be a very useful feature. +1

I'm currently a Divvy user, but would love to migrate to a FOSS alternative.

Divvy works quite well, pressing the Divvy hotkey opens the Divvy panel, which is a collection of tiles in a grid. You then drag over the tiles that you want the window's size to become. Alternatively, you can set pre-determined grid selections to certain hotkeys so that say pressing cmd+space (my divvy hotkey), then pressing a will move the window to the left side, presssing d will move it to the right side.

Yes please to the 2/3 option. Code editor in 1/3 and browser in 2/3 is my preferred workflow.

Thanks for the 2/3 mode in the new release. I couldn't be happier.

I updated to the latest version but no option for 2/3. Am I missing something?

@popshuvitdude In 0.8.3 if you continue to active the action to move a window to the left half or right half of the display Spectacle will cycle through 1/2, 2/3, and 1/3.

Oh right. I was expecting the 2/3 option to cover two thirds of the screen like my screen shot instead of just moving the window to the 2nd third of the screen.

I'd also like to see something that would allow an easy 1/3 2/3 split between 2 apps. Just cycling through thirds is not enough. Even something like "snap to edge" that would pull the nearest window edge to screen's edge would be enough. App 1 cycle to left 1/3, App 2 cycle to middle 1/3 then snap to right edge. Only 2 distinct commands though cycling through thirds will take a few keybashes but at least we're not leaving to mouseland to resize.

Hi, I came here to make a request for a 2/3 of screen size option and found this thread. So, +1 from me.

Thanks to the devs for this fantastic app. I find it useful and use it many, many times each day.

Thank "follower" for making a ticket and documenting that the feature exists, but is labelled badly:

follower@#172: "It's not obvious from the Preferences UI that the "Left Half" and "Right Half" keyboard shortcuts actually implement 1/2, 2/3, and 1/3 functionality." - i.e it toggles through those fractions, including 2/3.

I agree, divisions should be configurable. 1/3 subdivisions is not enough on a 21:9 screen. :-)

edit. Sorry, this is badly formulated. It seems that the smallest division is around 1/6 but the last 1/6 doesn't get "added" to a window when using the hotkeys.

smalles size is 1/3, largest size is 2/3 with two subdivisions from 1/3 to 2/3. What I'd love to see is another 1/6 on top of the 2/3. If that makes sense.
