Allow users to select a quality profile per season, would allow for SDTV/DVD releases for old seasons, but HDTV+ for new ones, without ignoring them (thus excluding them from the episode count).

I would very much like to see this at some point. After importing all my existing series many of them got mislabeled as SDTV and some have been replaced by inferior files because of it. Fixing the wrongly labeled episodes would be a lot of work (300+ series, can only update each ep one by one). You already named the disadvantage of using a season pass in this card itself.

Actually that disadvantage is moot now, since the episodes with files are included in the count regardless of their monitored state.
This adds a lot of complexity to the profile system, making them a lot less useful and confusing. Taken the idea a little further: How about multiple Profiles per season oder per series? For example i like to watch my series in englisch but my girlfriend prefers german.
So how about adding support to download a season in multiple languages? And then saving them in profile-specific folders like : ShowName/Profile/S01...02..03....../Episode

Rather, this would greatly assist in downgrading the quality of old episodes for archival / completion purposes. Average SD file is only 10% of my HD files so reducing the quality profile on past seasons would be a massive space saver. Being able to do it by season would be a massive time saver!
A way to automatically downgrade old seasons would be even better!

This would allow me to hunt for the best possible quality of all seasons, without having to unmonitor them. Consider a cascading profile? Master profile set at series level, but overridden if a profile is set at season level?
