It's not possible to move over at this point as it would break many platforms such as synology and likely freebsd as well.

That would be a no. (Did you expect any other answer?)
As mentioned in the other linked open issue, it's not that easy and it's not a move we want to make before v3 is mainstream. Arguably there's even little benefit to using dotnet core, it's better to slowly refactor individual modules to netstandard instead, yet I have no desire to debate that again.
