Softethervpn: Feature Request: SOCKS Server
Please consider adding the option to configure SoftEther as a SOCKS Server like Tor or PuTTY.
Some advantages of a SOCKS server
- Allows simultaneously access to encrypted and unencrypted connections
- If the VPN goes down, users can't unintentionally send unencrypted data

VPN != SOCKS. Please describe more clearly.
If you just want a SOCKS server, there's already many projects/software for it.
Also, SOCKS protocol are not encrypted by nature.

SOCKS is not a VPN Protocol. It would provide an additional connectivity option that would likely run on top of SoftEther鈥檚 Virtual Adapter. I suggest you try out the Tor Browser Bundle to see how it works and all of the advantages integrating it would bring. Tor's SOCKS Server allows the user to configure any browser or IRC client to use encrypted network, while transmitting all the other traffic over the standard network connection.
If you've ever used TOR, you'd see how useful it is to not encrypt everything such as file sharing programs or streaming Netflix. Even more importantly, it prevents you from accidentally sending unencrypted confidential data. If SoftEther supported SOCKS access, when the VPN goes down, the app configured to use SOCKS will just stop working.
While there are many open source SOCKS servers such as SS5 , dante, or 3proxy, none of them natively work well with SoftEther. To get all of these benefits, SoftEther would need to integrate them like the Tor Bundle or write their own.
