I just would like to see supported also open source alternative. voat was only a example. wathever is ok. just giving a open source alternative to reddit would be ok. better if decentralized.

Are you suggesting one app support multiple backends? If yes, I'm not against that idea. It'd be pretty ambitious and since many sites are the same as each other, decently reasonable as an idea.

I assume the user base is too small for the effort to be worth it though, considering I haven't even heard the name Voat since back when "Reddit" was mad at someone at the company and pretended they were leaving for a week.

I'd agree with @nxt3. It's a cool idea and one I'd work out as a project solo in my spare time (and never finish) but I don't see it coming to Slide unless @ccrama has gone off the rails and I'd have to talk him down.

If Voat was popular enough it may be fun to get that as a unique feature, but I don't think it holds enough weight to justify it over the already giant task of holding Reddit's hand through its growing pains.

With the Slide 2 rewrite, I plan on using MVVM to make it easier for us to separate the logic and the UI, which would theoretically make it possible to do this, but the real issue comes with linking the UI elements to things that one website or another have or don't have (which would mean much more complicated data models), and then linking actions to the right API endpoints on their respective sites.

It would be feasible to fork Slide 2, though, and make a Voat alternative client distributed on F-Droid if someone had the will/time to do so! But they will very likely not be part of the same app

Your right there are a lot of cruel people on Voat which is sad since I like the idea of Voat which is a free speech alternative to Reddit and one was needed. I do like the idea of supporting more backends like Voat but I hope someday more reddit users will join Voat and the antisemitic and racist voaters will be outnumbered and not be heard. Heck I do hope someday Voat could have many forums not about politics since the world needs more everyday conversations and not political bickering.
