Same error here. If I remove the "--use-tray-icon" from the launcher, it works fine.

Same on Windows 10 (10.0.18363)

Also had to remove --start-in-tray.

Impacted by the same issue in Windows 10 using Signal version 1.32.2.

Same issue in Windows 7 using Signal version 1.32.2.

The same issue in Windows 7 after Signal updated to version 1.32.2.

And I think #4083 is much accurate, this title is not that clear.

It looks like https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Desktop/releases/tag/v1.33.0-beta.4 already has a fix for it - note the changelog.

Fixed in v1.33.0-beta4!

(still present in v1.32.2)

Was there a beta testing programme for 1.32.2 before it went to a world-wide public release? Today I had an auto-update (quite aggressive I might add) to the new version, clicked ok assuming it would work, and it's clearly broken. The only way to get it working was to uninstall and then reinstall version 1.32.1 which is stable. Now I've lost my entire conversation history on the PC. Brilliant.

No, it seems that there was no beta for 1.32.2. Are you using windows? Couldn't you backup the config folder before uninstalling?

Thankyou for your comments. I've only been using Signal for 1 week, and so I didn't really have any history before then other than a few hours on my mobile phone, before I installed the desktop app. I forgot that conversation history wasn't synced - I'm not used to it.
A reasonable thing on my part :( And I didn't know that it was possible to back up conversations and restore them later :(
I'll live with it but it's very annoying - I think if Signal is going to gain ground, things like this really shouldn't happen, users will abandon ship quickly. (I'm already trying to persuade people who came with me to stick with it now as a consequence). A global release with no beta testing programme isn't very good.
Yes this is windows 7. Is there a newbie guide on which folders to back up/ restore please?
I naively assumed that if I did a remove, it would leave config/user files in place like many win apps do, and not do a hard "scrub" of all the data.
