Is this a thing that happens to you frequently? Is it only when you're doing the bulk load on startup or coming back from sleep? Quotes are checked when we receive the message, not on render, and so it appears to be a problem stemming from recent changes in synchronization during message load.

This was the first time I've seen this happen. It was on bulk initial load

happens to me on Linux as well.

I don't know when exactly this appears. I just noticed it.

I have the same issue. I have signal-desktop installed on two different computers A and B, and interestingly, I have the issue twice with two different messages, but for one message it's on A and the other it's on B. I have yet to see the same failure on both.

A message received on 2019-03-06 at 3:10 PM fails on B
A message received on 2019-03-07 at 2:32 PM fails on A

"fails" == has the "Original message not found" although the right message is shown

@scottnonnenberg-signal
Should this be fixed in v1.24.1? I'm still experiencing this issue.

@scottnonnenberg-signal It's still the same now. We just switched over and have many of these messages. We are using the app, not the desktop version. Appears to be mainly an issue with iPhones?

@scottnonnenberg-signal Sometimes I get notification that someone has sent a message, but when I click the notification, it opens signal and there is no message.

@teamayu can you attach debug logs? If you're observing the bug on iphone devices and this doesn't have to do with the signal-desktop, you can search similar issues (or open a new one if there's none) there: https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-iOS/issues

Thanks, but I'm going to uninstall, it has too many bugs. Messages disappearing when disappearing messages are off, notifications for messages that don't exist, people not seeing other peoples posts in groups. Honestly, it's total rubbish. I'll try again in a few months when hopefully it does work.

Sometimes you can receive newer messages before, which means the message will appear higher up in the discussion. That could explain disappearing messages (they could be somewhere you don't expect in the discussion) and weird notifications.

For groups, new members won't see old messages. Otherwise they should see them eventually.

Just to say that if this design explains your bugs, it's unlikely to be fixed since it's working as expected.

Thanks, but I think I know when an app is a little buggy. What we figured out today was if we create a group, it seems that for some people disappearing messages are set to on at 5 seconds by default. In their settings and the group settings disappearing messages are clearly off. The fix seems to be to switch on disappearing messages and then switch them back off again.

Now we have people sending images, but when they receive them on their phone they can't make out what they are. Signal is way to buggy, it shouldn't even be available. I'm going to try Telegram.
