From the new Electron app, can't start new group conversations. There does not appear to be any button or menu option to do this. Currently, the only way to start a new group message is to do it from a mobile app and then switch back to desktop to continue the conversation.
Actual result: No way to start a group message
Expected result: A way to create a new group and send a group message

Operating System: macOS High Sierra
Signal version: v1.0.34

It would be very convenient function.
Anything I could do to support someone implementing this feature request?
I just stumbled over this - had to go get my phone to create a new group before returning to my desktop to use it.
I'll send a pint of handcrafted Vermont maple syrup to any developer that fixes this
This would be terrific! @scottnonnenberg-signal do you know if there's designs for this feature anywhere?
Any movement on this?
I miss this feature too.
I just ran into this thread while trying to create a group on the mac desktop app. This would be an awesome feature actually.
Please use Reactions (emojis) to give your opinion about a feature request. That makes sorting issues by popularity easier and prevents useless notifications for new comments on this issue.
Why is it that, 3 years later, this feature still isn't implemented when there is a very obvious demand for it?
Hi, I just needed to create a new group on my mobile phone. This feature is really neccessary for a modern communication.
Dear developers, please try to implement this.
(Ubuntu 20.04 Desktop).
Regards
I'd like this feature as well.
The first issue, was posted back in 2016. #671
What can we do to help? :)
This is still on our radar鈥攖hanks for keeping the pressure on.
Glad to hear it, @EvanHahn-Signal. =) This is the second most liked and 7th most "love"d feature request currently in the queue, it looks like. An earlier comment suggests that means it should be getting attention soon -- are there other criteria on which it is being judged that prevent it from making it to the top slot? Anything we can do other than emote to nudge it forward?
No need to do anything else, thanks for checking!
We take a lot of things into account when determining our engineering priorities, including forum and GitHub activity. Please know that we are listening, but we're a small team and we can't talk about our plans until those plans are ready to launch.
Miss that feature too
Yo Elon Where's the chuffing groups button! (joking) "Would be nice though" 馃憤
Thanks again for reporting. This is still on our radar. No need to continue to bump this issue, but don't let me dampen your enthusiasm!
Yup, sorry, didn't see the message before, good luck with that and thanks for everything you do guys, you really rock
Hi, @EvanHahn-Signal I am a beginner developer, I wish to contribute to this feature. Is there a Slack channel for contributors?
@RushikeshJoshi4 Thanks for your enthusiasm! This is a fairly big feature, so we'll plan to have someone on the Signal team implement it.
We don't have a Slack channel, but we do have a community forum.
Hi folks, it would be nice to have this feature in the signal desktop client (which is lightyears behind of what telegram has to offer right now to be honest). Not complaining, just pointing out the obvious... my mobile phone usually rests in some forgotten corner in the house (as it should be :-))
Keep up the good work & all the best,
Uwe
Could people who are not familiar with modern GitHub etiquette please stop commenting on this issue. Edit: use a thumbs up on the first post to signify your interest.
@EvanHahn-Signal if people don't shut up with the off-topic comments, please can you lock this thread to non-contributors? I'd like to know when this feature is going to see work done and eventually land, so I've subscribed to this issue, I do not need my time wasted by people pointing out the obvious (and if it's obvious, then you're insulting the intelligence of the developers by pointing it out).
I just saw that this landed in 5.0.0-beta.0.
Yes鈥攖his feature is now in beta.
There are a few known issues that we'll address before going to production. But if you want to get in on the action early, give the beta a try and start creating groups!
