Signal-android: Backing up SMS in TextSecure

Created on 13 Nov 2013  路  5Comments  路  Source: signalapp/Signal-Android

Hello,
I have a problem with TextSecure. I want to export my messages to the SD Card in order to have a backup of my data. I want to export the messages in plaintext, but unfortunately I have no idea where to find it on the SD-Card or how to open it. I could鈥檛 find any plaintext data in /storage/sdcard0/TextSecure Export. I hope you can help me with this problem.
Greetings,

For what it's worth, i just exported the data on my nexus 5 (Which doesn't have an SDcard) and although the export claims to be successful, i can't find "TextSecurePlaintextBackup.xml" anywhere. Is this supposed to work?

There is no plaintext sms, they are stored encrypted on the phone. I have feature request in (https://github.com/WhisperSystems/TextSecure/issues/403) to allow the exporting of sms

I have the option to export Encrypted Backup and "Export a plaintext backup compatible with SMSBackup And restore to the SD card". So it looks like there should be a plaintext backup on the SD card, but I can't find one.

Ah I see. I thought it was export of individual messages not the whole DB. The plaintext export of TextSecure messages, at least for me, is put in the root of the sd card and called TextSecurePlaintextBackup.xml

@docanonymous did you find the file at TextSecurePlaintextBackup.xml?
