Shadowsocks-android: 4.5.3 切换配置文件（或开关）后导致 Google App 无法搜索 （Google App text search went wrong after switching server）

What did you do?

切换配置文件，或者开关SS后

Google App search should work as normal

What did you see instead?

Google App 文字搜索提示：something went wrong，无法显示搜索结果；但是语音搜索正常，feeds 正常；chrome内Google搜索正常，其他app包括油管正常
重装 SS 后第一次使用一切正常，开关或切换配置文件后 Google App内文字搜索无法进行
使用全局模式，则Google App文字搜索正常
退回到 4.5.1 一切正常

Google App text search cannot return search results but display "something went wrong";
Google App voice search works as expected;
Google App Feeds card works as normal;
Reinstall SS could temperarily fix this issue but the problem came up again after switching server
Route All can also avoid this issue.

我也遇到了类似的问题，Google文字搜索失败，不过我把路由切换到自定义规则模式就正常了。另外我发现，我这边的问题可能是不能登陆Google.com.hk，因为我尝试用google.co.jp是一切正常的

Route All is ok, can visit google.com.hk in chrome and Google search app normally. But set Route method as bypass China mainland, Google hk can't visit. Hope it can fix in next version.

目前确定 4.5.0到4.5.3都存在该问题。

I rollback to version V4.4.4, google.com.hk work Ok for chrome and Google search app.

@JadaGates 发现确实是个历史遗留问题。以前一直发现 Google App 连不上，其他程序正常，还以为是 Google App 的问题。有时发现重启 SS 或 重置 SS 后就好了。
现在看来，是 SS 在 google.com.hk 等域名上有些特殊。

更新：454上面，这个问题依然存在。
刚运行SS后，Google app文字搜索正常，但是从WiFi到蜂窝或反过来之后，Google app 文字搜索就不能用了。
chrome内部连google.com.hk 显示

该网页无法正常运作
google.com.hk 未发送任何数据。

感觉问题出在Google那边。
模式选择的 GFW或绕过局域网或中国网络 都无法上hk。
全局或仅仅绕过局域网模式下，可以连接hk。
有没有可能内置一个规则，将google.com.hk定向至 google.com?

权宜之计的解决办法是 转发所有DNS请求到远程服务器，这样可能有个副作用就是明明是国内的网站却返回的是该网站的境外IP，同时严重延长域名解析时间。

不过应该不是谷歌的问题，因为同配置下iOS访问正常。

Disable IPv6 routing and try again.

I cannot reproduce the issue locally. There're two possible problems:

1. You're switching from one region to another region's servers, e.g. from Taiwan to Hongkong. As google will always redirect you to the local server, the searching problem is expected.
2. You're switching from a server with IPv6 support to another one without IPv6 support. Similar problems would happen.

It's weird that you system didn't flush the DNS cache when switching VPN connections. It'd be fixed since Android 5.0.

To avoid this annoying problem, you may also try https://www.google.com/ncr as the default search engine.

Thanks for your response even on non working days.

1. I've tried disabling ipv6 routing but this couldn't fix it.
2. Your analysis may make sense. My servers do locate in two different countries and some of them don't support ipv6. However this issue appears even I did not change the server. It just failed to search text after a while. I guess the issue might be due to the Google app itself.
3. I used no country redirect (ncr) in chrome, but I cannot control Google app and choose the Google domain.
4. My os is official Oxygen for OnePlus 5T based on Android 800. I don't know why it doesn't flush the DNS. I have set "always on VPN" option for SS. Will this affect the OS to flush DNS?

It's really annoying that everything works well except the Google app text search.

It just failed to search text after a while.

It looks a totally different problem. Do you have UDP relay support on your server? If so, try to disable UDP relay on your server (removing the -u option from CLI or using IPTABLES to drop UDP traffic to your server's port) and try again.

Hmm. I removed the -u argument from the /etc/default/SS... and restarted SS service seeing the UDP port was not opened.
Restart the phone but the issue is still there.
Everything goes but not the Google app text search.
I think the problem must be attributed to Google app or the OS.

Update:
Google app worked after I switched routing from gfw to by pass China and LAN this noon.
I don't know why, but the bypass mode did have been failing for some days before I posted this issue.

不清楚。虽说切换到bypass China& LAN之后目前没问题，但是隔一段时间首次用Google app搜索时要等很久，第二次大概因为有DNS缓存就快了。
暂时用by pass China&LAN用着，至少不会不工作。

在我的设备上重现了该问题…检查后发现应该是Google重定向所导致的问题。我的vps换至西伯利亚后，Google重定向至Google.com.ru。同时导致chrome与Google app均无法访问……是否是未将此类域名添加至名单所导致的问题？

issue reproduced on 4.5.5 with GFWlist mode, but works with by pass china and lan mode.

BTW, seems that google.cn (also google cn apis) are also treated as a non-china website which leads to a satellite image shift in Google maps. It also makes google.cn/translate a little slower the phone has to connect to google servers outside china.

The problem here is believed to be fixed by our latest update of GFWList.

我刚刚更新到4.6，问题依旧，同时，我尝试将GFWlist导入自定义规则，文字搜索依旧不行。
现在我使用模式是绕过局域网和中国大陆地址。
我的设备是一加3T

我出现过此问题，切换GFW list后，可以使用. 打开DNS转发，也可以使用。最终把ss卸载以后，重新安装后故障消失
