Steps to reproduce

1. Install VS 2015 + Update 3 RC candidate. If you are a Microsoft employee, you can obtain these machines from http://xlab
2. Download the CLI installer from https://dotnetcli.blob.core.windows.net/dotnet/preview/Installers/Latest/dotnet-dev-win-x64.latest.exe and try to run it.
   

   Expected behavior

Install succeeds

Actual behavior

Install fails with this error 0x80070666.

Which is:
Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel.

I found some workaround: remove Visual C++ redistrutable 2015 (both) and then installation should succeed.

A workaround has been provided in the VS 2015 Update 3 RC release notes: https://msdn.microsoft.com/vs-knownissues/vs2015-update3-rc

The issue will be fixed in Update 3 RTM.

On windows 10 I can't uninstall the following the Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable. When I click uninstall it doesn't do anything.

Repair the Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (both x86 and x64) via the "Programs and Feature" Window (a.k.a. Add/Remove Programs)

On Windows 10, right click the start button and select "Programs and Features"
Select "Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (x64) - 14.0.24123" and then click "Change"
In the Visual C++ 2015 redistributable dialog, select "Repair"
Select "Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (x86) - 14.0.24123" and then click "Change"
In the Visual C++ 2015 redistributable dialog, select "Repair"

@superlogical dunno, I did it on Win10 x64 and everything worked. You also can do not touch x86 redistrutable becuase CLI are depended on x64 version only.

This problem is not solved. I wanted to install the new .NET core 1.1 runtime and sdk and it failed. I had to remove the VS2015 C++ x86 and x64 before installing the .NET core.

I just had the same problem with the preview 4 installer. I've tried installing a 2015 redistributable independently and it also fails. I have Visual Studio 2017 Enterprise RC installed - but shouldn't these runtimes be able to live SxS? I have ones from 2010, 2012, 2013, and 2017 installed, but the 2015 one fails.

Update: It looks to me as though the installer actually does install preview4, even if the C++ redistributable installation fails. I never was able to get a 2015 vc_redist to install, but somehow I have the preview4 sdk and am able to use it.

Same issue.

1. I uninstalled the previous .NET core version
2. Tried installed via dotnet-dev-win-x64.1.0.0-preview2-1-003177.exe

Because Core is uninstalled now, my dotnet --info doesn't compute. I'm running the following (via systeminfo):

This also fails if you have VS.net 2017 RC installed with the RC C++ runtimes.

I hit this issue as well during an installation of our own software that has a packaged version of the vcredist 2015 install before installing our software. It prevents our software from installing correctly and I'm not sure there's workaround for the latest windows 10 yet.
