Description of Issue/Question

Currently there is no option to deploy to Ubuntu 18.04/bionic from repo.saltstack.com.

Is there an estimated date for this to happen?

Just to clarify -- does this mean that there won't be any Ubuntu 18.04 packages built for 2018.3, and that folks will need to wait for the next release of salt (2018.?) in order to download a saltstack-maintained package for 18.04?

In the meantime, I'm planning to use the 2017.7 package that Canonical provides with 18.04.

UPDATE: Canonical only provides the python3 version of 2017.7, which seems to suffer from some str/byte mismatch errors fixed in 2018.3. Does anyone have suggestions for other possible workarounds?

by next release I mean the next dot release. So 2018.3.1 and 2017.7.6 will be the first releases for which ubuntu18 packages will be provided from repo.saltstack.com.

Cool, thanks for the clarification.

any timeframe for 2018.3.1?

We are currently fixing up a couple more issues found during the testing phase then we will re-test and package then release. We are shooting for next week if things go well during testing :)

thanks

we have pushed ubuntu 18 packages up now for 2017.7.6 and 2018.3.1 :)
