I just ran into this. Managed to reduce the crash to

pub fn f(v: &Vec<i32>) -> impl Iterator<Item=&i32> {
    v.iter()
}

Explicit lifetimes indeed fix it:

pub fn f<'a>(v: &'a Vec<i32>) -> impl Iterator<Item=&'a i32> {
    v.iter()
}
