Previous usage in channels was when @ mention a user it automatically added to the channel. This seems to have stopped working.
When @username automatically adds as member of channel
Does not add to channel
Having a similar problem. I'm not sure what version we're on or the setup of rocketchat, but it does look like @ used to add a user and it now doesn't, without anything in particular having changed. I can get more details if required.
It also appears when add a channel name into another channel does not autolink them as did before.

Can't confirm that on 0.69.2
I can confirm the @user problem.
I could not replicate the problem (assuming this was a public channel, as this behaviour is not intended on private groups).
Hi @Hudell thanks for your comment on #12303 , I confirm this happen to public channel (the mention not inviting the user). We are in 0.69.2 .Btw, having a different behaviour on private and public channels would not be obvious for users, I would encourage to change the highlight colour of the username when they are not in channel.
I could not replicate the problem on 0.71.0 Please try it out on the newest release and reopen this if you experience this issue again. Thanks!
I just upgraded to 0.71.0 and same issue for me.
Hello there from the Drupal community. We are also experiencing this issue. Also, other people do not have the ability to invite to the group through the icon. I would think that both an @mention and the icon should be there. As well as the lists feature.
Still a problem in version 1.2.3. Users can mention users, that are not members of the current private room, but the user won't get the message nor an invite. And the sender can't discern, that he just send a message to /dev/null
