Not a game issue, but what the hell...? Does someone know more about this?
http://www.rigsofrods.com/threads/120914-Forum-changes
Also, the main page is ruined (video and text gone) including the link to the download.
EDIT by Hiradur: The website is currently changing hands and will resume full operation soon:tm:. However, because this opportunity will be taken to modernize the server software expect it to take a while.
We don't know yet but if somebody would like to play multiplayer right now here is the server list (the master server is unreachable)

@DirtGamer301
Does someone know more about this?
Well, I guess it's an another forum software update.
I think it would be nice if tdev let us know before the update, the shutdown of servers (something like one week or a few days).
Ok I think this is BS ror was on a rise for the first time in like 12 months......
Everything has its time. After loosing 99.9% of the players, we decided to take the remaining webservices down.
So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish
Seems that the forum doesn't exist anymore, is there anyone that has a backup solution?
I dont know D:
the closer of discussion points on Beamng is childish as hell.
Well this is saddening. All the hard work by everyone who was still left on that forum will never be seen ever again. R.I.P. RoR forums, you will truly be missed.
restoring backup ...
Now they are restoring a copy and nadeox1 said don't blame tdev without the whole story....
all we want is the whole story
This is getting really interesting...
^^
That it is
@corvette81
Beamng is childish as hell.
You know, money....
So what exactly is going on? The forum was tooken down because no activity? and now its being restored from backup? for how long before its tooken down for ever? is anyone thinking of making a backup forum? Say like proboards etc?
Is development still going to go on as normal, even if the forum disappears?
Also what exactly was stated in the "forum changes" thread before the forum went off line? Sorry I didn't catch it soon enough.
@UCDHIUS If this becomes more permanent, I might use my unused webspace for (attachment-less) forums... But nothing will be able to replace the real thing. ='(
@willkgr76
Saw that, anyone have screenshots of that thread on the forum?
@UCDHIUS Oh, ok. No screenshots :(
We should start up a free forum, (proboards or the like for backup) just so we can have discussions with on going development.
Yes, it won't be the real thing, but at least it will keep the remaining RoR players and Dev team "connected" as a communication hub.
@UCDHIUS Yes, certainly :)
@wilkgr76 Thanks, let me know when its setup.
As long as it can serve as a back up, basic text/thread posting should be fine. Sorry I am not forum software savy lol.
@UCDHIUS Up - http://wilkgr.altervista.org/RoR/index.php
@wilkgr76 I'm registered
@wilkgr76 for some reason when I was making a post the language changed?
Thanks
@wilkgr76 I was like oh my, what happened lol.
@wilkgr76 no I cannot LOL, I was like did I mess with my settings or something..
@wilkgr76 ill be sending you a PM though the forum shortly.
@UCDHIUS I deleted the discussion from here as it doesn't help in any way.
UPDATE:
"Hello everybody, this is only_a_ptr writing.
Things got settled with TDev, the server is being restored from today's backup, so nothing will get lost.
Stay tuned and be patient, things are going to be back to normal tomorrow. Don't stay up late though, the backup will take a few more hours.
Cheers."
Well that is good thank you ptr :+1:
@wilkgr76 Thanks
@only-a-ptr that's good news, Thank You.
We arranged a deal: I got admin access to rigsofrods.com. We have month of time to move our data to a different server. Then, TDev will pass me the rigsofrods.com domain so I can redirect it to our new place.
From @only-a-ptr on Gitter :smile:
Sorry for the ragequit earlier on. :/
Working together with only_a_ptr to transition the data properly now.
@tdev As long as we don't have to rely on my poorly-setup forums :grinning:
Luckily DuckDuckGo hasn't set the text to "Thanks for the fish" unlike Google.
@wilkgr76 The idea atm is that we put it back up working, then you crawl the data into a static website or alike. Then create your own forums. The files/attachments/repofiles will all be preserved.
ah, well, was not having a good day today...
@tdev The forums are set up (with PHPbb). I'm just going to keep them unlisted with .htaccess (and give the password to @UCDHIUS) I also have only about ~3 GB of storage though (I'm on a free plan). Perhaps I could make another free website on another free web hosting site for pure storage...
@wilkgr76 Idk, only_a_ptr will decide where you will be hosting i guess. Restore will take some 4 more hours.
@tdev While I'm willing to help with the real thing, I was only planning it as a makeshift thing while the real ones are down.
@only-a-ptr do you have a place in mind for the "new forums" to be hosted?
Will all the current users be transferred on over?
@tdev @only-a-ptr It says 404 - Not Found on homepage now, your messages are gone.
@wilkgr76 it is probably them editing the message or something. It was the same way before the messages came up today.
@wilkgr76 Calm down, working on the backup. server config is restored, data is not. Will need a lot more time.
@UCDHIUS no users will be transferred. I'll not leak password hashes.
@tdev Knowing you didn't have to allow us time to organise everything for a server swap I'd like it to be known that we all(I hope all of us) appreciate it and hope this new change will see an in improvement in ROR, its website and the community so Thank you Thomas and have a better day tomorrow. :+1:
@tdev It's noon here, I got plenty more time :smile:
@corvette81 thanks ;)
@wilkgr76 3:42am here D: 1/4 done though
@tdev Ah, the joys of the internet! Talking to people from all over the world :) Good to see it's coming along well.
@tdev Thanks
@tdev Up, up up! It's nearly 6 already! jk
If you need a web server, I am more than willing to offer space on mine. It was being used to host another forum but the forum ended up shutting down.
LOL is 7PM here @wilkgr76
@only-a-ptr let me know if you guys wanna go the route I suggested or not
@UCDHIUS 15:48 here :) AEST FTW
guys, uploading 470 GB using rsync through ssh takes a while :| - 220 GB back up
@tdev Yay! You're back!
@tdev How much GB is the repo actually?
@wilkgr76 i got my 3 hours night, soo tired
@AnotherFoxGuy we'll see, not that much - the backups stored on the server make the size explode
@tdev Backups of backups? :laughing:
Go ahead, get more sleep. We'll set the alarm bells ringing if it's not up in 3 hours...
EDIT: AFK but set a script to repeatedly ping rigsofrods.com and alert me if it finds an tag, and auto-posts on github a "yay" message! :smiling_imp:
I'll not sleep and leave you hanging (also cannot sleep). I fucked this up and will fix it up as well.
@tdev Thanks for not leaving us hanging, you gotta get some sleep though.. PS i'm impressed with beam new features. i'm loving it.. user: Josh
Looking into archival solutions: https://meta.discourse.org/t/archive-an-old-forum-in-place-to-start-a-new-discourse-forum/13433 < maybe this?
@tdev Get some sleep. Please. I appreciate your gesture, but _please_, get some sleep!
Edit - isn't it all in a database? Write a script to automatically generate the HTML webpages... Might work, might not... Will it work? :grey_question::grey_question:
96.53% done ...
i dumped the repo sql already
and will export the mediawiki content
also will make a html copy of the forums for you
Thats the least i can do.
UPDATE: restore done, working on getting services back up. took only 882.3 minutes :|
back up, starting copy process.
Will the site be fully running or just certain things like download ect...?
I am doing a backup right now. Site is read-able again though. The backup will be there when its done: http://backups.rigsofrods.com/
update: repository is completely exported on above URL.
repo api added: http://backups.rigsofrods.com/api.tar.bz2
"Everything has its time. After losing 99.9% of the players, we decided to take the remaining webservices down. So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish." - Is Rigs of Rods being discontinued?
@shayandoust no rigs of rods is not closing, the forum is changing hands, it was old out dated and in desperate need of repair
http://html.rigsofrods.com/www.rigsofrods.com/forum.html being built still, will take some more days i think.
exported mediawiki with full history (and all files): http://backups.rigsofrods.com/ror-mediawiki-fullhistory.xml.bz2
@tdev Whatever happens with the new website, I'm willing to help :smiley: Using my poor HTML skills. (The best thing I ever made is at http://wilkgr.altervista.org/MT)
OK, so website html script still running. What we'll do the next days:
@tdev I really appreciate the updates, and I'm sure everyone else does too :smile:
Like I said above, I'm willing to help in whatever way I can, (nothing's too unimportant...)
@wilkgr76 your help is appreciated but I think at the moment the backup of the forum is automated and until we know exactly what we want our new site to have and look like there are no tasks.
@Hiradur I understand. Besides, this thread is basically the first time you've seen me. So... I'm basically a random stranger.
@tdev Could you also give us access to the Rigs of Rods Twitter, Openhub, etc?
@AnotherFoxGuy Petr has access to all the things i had access to. Will check twitter again. Idk what openhub is.
@tdev Will you also backup the wiki images? :smile:
@Hotrod55 Yes. He said it's already done above:
I'll complete the backup of the data. Done so far: Wiki, repo, api. TODO: forum html. I'll hand over the data to everyone in this public folder: http://backups.rigsofrods.com/
Here's the direct link: http://backups.rigsofrods.com/ror-mediawiki-fullhistory.xml.bz2
@tdev Idk what openhub is.
OpenHUB was formerly known as Ohloh
https://www.openhub.net/p/ror
I posted the message on the front page, as announced. Petr will tell me the details of the new server when ready and i will redirect the domain then.
@tdev will it be down for a few days?
My this whole thing sparked action!
@wilkgr76 The XML dump only has text, not images.
@Hotrod55 it should contain the images - it was exported with --include-files. Anyways, just in case, i zipped the images/ folder there: http://backups.rigsofrods.com/wiki-images.tar.bz2
@tdev Thanks!
Hi everyone.
At the moment I'm trying hard to preserve the old forum the best I can.
TDev launched a httrack job to copy the site - but the process ran forever and produced an ugly mess of data. It worked, but it wasn't manageable.
As a solution, I wrote a suite of scripts to create an organized site copy with files put in per-thread directories. This way, we can continuously clean up the forum in the future, deleting outdated and misleading info.
EDIT: Progress info deleted, see last post
As mentioned previosly in gitter I also tried to archive the forum using wget. It seemed to kinda work, but also produced messy and duplicate output due to dynamic urls. I therefore stopped the process.
@only-a-ptr Did httptrack finally finish? I could try wget one more time (there are many filtering possibilities) if you like. However, if your scripts work fine, then I guess there's no reason for me to dive into the wget docs and wasting bandwidth.
@mikadou The httrack by TDev actually crashed - I somehow threw it off when I opened it's .lock file.
EDIT: Results are packed at backups.rigsofrods.com:8080 - sorry for mis-informing :blush:
Anyway, thanks but I don't need further help with the forum, my scripts are handling it great.
Bandwidth is a big issue, actually - the server keeps vanishing and re-appearing (tried on multiple internet connections at the same time). I wonder how many ppl are crawling the site right now.
What about http://backups.rigsofrods.com:8080/ ?
Just a quick question regarding the multiplayer: Is the list that was shown above still active? I tried accessing the list via the config's network "update" button, but it's not either showing anything or responding.
Just a quick question regarding the multiplayer: Is the list that was shown above still active? I tried accessing the list via the config's network "update" button, but it's not either showing anything or responding.
No, the ingame menu of RoRConfig pulls the list from rigsofrods.com/multiplayer which is offline, so the list is empty. I copied the list from that site shortly before it went offline. You have to copy the IP adress of the server you want to go to to RoRConfig manually.
Alright, thank you.
I probably will start learning and helping develop the new versions of RoR. I need to learn how and how to code it.
And nor am I a part of the development team.
You should try getting a backup of the wiki from the old server. But I assume it's past too late for that.
Like the SQL database etc.
@only-a-ptr since you have root access wouldn't it be possible to restrict access to rigsofrods.com to your ip address?
@mikadou Technically yes, but there's no way I'm going to tamper with it - that probably wouldn't end well. :smile:
TDev actually extended the server's self-destruct countdown to 31. of March, so there's plenty of time to download everything.
@only-a-ptr if sometning won't end well it's best not to risk it ;)
@only-a-ptr it isn't that difficult to do, just create a .htaccess file in the root of the server with these contents:
order deny,allow
deny from all
allow from your_ip
Keep in mind that the ip changes daily for most consumer connections, don't lock yourself out.
@AnotherFoxGuy I know how it's done, but I just won't do it, there's always something to go wrong. Further I can't restrict access at root level, TDev's using (or was using) the server for other things. Finally, I don't want to cause another "RoR's dying!!!" panic. It's bad enough like this :smile:
Are the services down again or is it just me?
@Dogy144 Just went back up again.
@tdev or @only-a-ptr I got curious a week ago and did this http://vps.elitediamond.net/rigsofrods/serverlist/serverlist.html
But I want to make a full page one like the one that had the names of the users on each server and the IP like the chart with the server list on the old forum. But I don't have the HTML/php or whatever it is to do it. All I have is that code from the Api
@chris7676 First we'll get a new server, then we'll restore the serverlist. Be patient.
Ok.

It would be great if maps and cars are stored in a git repo now, so we make sure they never dissapear again, right?

They are too big in file size for a git repo (the content from the repo alone is more than 20gb) and there is also the issue of copyright.
I see. Damn, I just got the game to work today, just to find out I can't do much with it. I found some cars in other webs, but no terrains. :'(
@rredesigns Here is the official high quality pack including vehicles and terrains: https://www.dropbox.com/s/htlis7fw5fndkxi/pack_highquality04.zip
Wow!!. Downloading right now, thank you very much!. :D
I've mirrored the two content packs for 0.4.x here:
http://schmatzler.de/my_slackbuilds/rigsofrods/contentpacks/
I can put up a copy of the raw repository files, too, if someone needs it.
What is the difference between the "official pack", and the content packs? Which should I use?
The pack posted by Hiradur is the same as pack_highquality.
The other one contains less vehicles, but is much smaller for slower connections.
I see. Yeah, the previous was huge. Thanks a lot, I know it took you a big while to upload those. :D
Note that the content pack is included in the high quality pack.
Is there any word on how long it will take?
@Dogy144 Thanks :smiley:
Someone if you could please help my clueless self Ive played RoR for almost close to a decade i absolutely love this game it is amazing i went to Walmart and bought a laptop just to play after an hour of scanning the web i finally found the download.. i have no cars or maps lol idk how else to get the into my ror cache without the repository some1 please help me out if you could.. id appreciate it.
@ToxicSnowMan Not the place for it... Also see the previous comments for the backups.
Hey, probably breaking a rule by bumping but what the hell happened? After may people just stopped caring? I don't get it and I really don't want to see this game dead in the bottom of a river with a cinder block attached to it's leg.
Closing since the new website is now live at http://rigsofrods.org
@neffam3 The website was handed over from tdev to only_a_ptr, the new project leader. Because the old website had security flaws it's been reworked from scratch which is why it took so long.
