Hello, Rasa Community! 馃槏

I am looking into ways to improve the place where Rasa Community hangs out and would like to get your feedback on Gitter as a community platform. Please vote in the poll below on what you think the ideal platform for Rasa Community should be:

What the ideal platform for Rasa Community would be?

I would also appreciate a more detailed feedback on Rasa Community platform:

  • What do you like about Gitter and what things you don't like about it as a community platform?
  • Is it easy (or maybe super complicated) to use it and get the answers to your questions?
  • What platform do you think would be the best place for Rasa Community to hang out at and discuss things?
  • Anything else you have in mind and would like to share.

Feel free to simply share your thoughts in the comments below, your feedback is extremely important and valuable. Let's make Rasa Community the coolest place to hang out at! 馃殌

I think Gitter is kinda good for some stuff, but it is true that there are a lot of questions that are asked continuosly and sometimes gets very messy because everyone is talking about his/her own stuff. Slack would be great with the chance of deploying our own bots to let people see results easily.

I really think Discord is better. Interface is clearer, it works good on phone, there's more functionalities.

I'm kind of getting used to Gitter, although it is a bit cluttered. I'd prefer a platform that also supports bots. Maybe gitter does and I'm just not aware of it. It doesn't seem very easy to search for info on gitter by itself. I'm up for trying to support anything that works for everyone else though.

I think something like google forums should be used because it is hard to scan talks relevant to your project on gitter it becomes time consuming and also similar questions are being asked multiple times by different individual wheres as on google forums we can easily search questions using keywords.

I like Gitter. I think it gives you the sense that you are having responses, maybe not as fast as you would like, but you know it's going to arrive sooner than later.

The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that you could be maybe asking something that is too repetitive. In that case, I think those issues or questions should be documented in an easy to access FAQ for the users, maybe in the documentation.

Another thing that would be interesting: Rasa developers may do streams answering questions with maybe graphical examples (like a board, a bot itself....). Just set a date and topics with enough time to people hear about next stream so we can decide wether if attend to it or wait for the next one

I think a forum is better as you can search for answer before posting but you need Gitter enterprise edition to do that. I lot of questions got duplicated on Gitter since its just a long scroll of a page with single pane.

With a forum, apart from maintaining spamming, you can layout board, groups, FAQ, Articles, features request, road-map, Rasa-book collaboration, and many more

gitter

In my view, you should not rely on a single platform. Instead, you should probably use multiple platforms as means of communication.

For example, use forum for knowing past answered questions and use gitter for getting immediate feedback. Moreover, people can paste the link to the answer in forum at gitter. Hence, it reduces the clutter at gitter conversation.

Forum based platform (discord or others) are great. You can then look into the questions that were asked and the corresponding thread. With gitter, I can't follow what is going on ...

I think that a Discord or Slack server is great by the flexibility on the talk, it's real time. IMHO, it's better than Gitter because of the topic channels. (Discord )

At the other hand, a forum in a Discourse-way is really good to document and find answers just searching on the Google. For the people that is starting with Rasa, get a lot of answers just googling it is an amazing first impression about the framework.

I don't know if the both can work together, but I think that it's an option to discuss. How about a bot that export questions from Discord and post it at the Discourse? (after a moderation) (just a suggestion :satisfied:)

P.S: other option is Rocket.Chat
