Radarr: Grab Movie Trailer on Import

Created on 28 Jan 2017  ·  26Comments  ·  Source: Radarr/Radarr

Loving Radarr so far, working like a charm. Coming from CP I'd love to see one of my favorite features in CP show up in Radarr and that's auto download Trailer on import. Great for us non-plex pass subscribers. I believe CP grabs trailers from http://www.hd-trailers.net/

feature request maybe one day

I would say to take this a bit further and also have individual movie trailer grab as well as a bulk for pre-exsiting movies. It would be nice if the client did searches for better quality trailers like it handles movies.

Totally agree with magaman, would love to see this feature added.

Definitely would be a nice addition. I also agree with jscottdouglas that having a bulk trailer grab for preexisting movies would be great. That would allow some of our older movies with low-quality trailers to get an upgrade

You guys can use other tools like https://www.tinymediamanager.org/ and others until then. Maybe we don't even need this functionality in Radarr since other tools can do this for you.

@onedr0p would be much easier to have radarr do it all at once versus having to load up yet another tool just to download trailers. I use to get them all using tiny media manager, but once I had couch potato setup to pull them it saved me a ton of time. Now im on radar and would love to see this feature. Love the idea on trailer quality being able to download better quality automatically. I would be careful of having them pull from something like youtube though. cant stand getting incorrect trailers from there. An option to put in a youtube URL to rip a trailer for a movie would be sweet though :) but thats above and beyond now.

@ianc125 I couldn't agree more. Everything you posted is exactly along my line of thinking.

Personally right now I installed the trailer plugin for plex since radarr does not download trailers this was a nice addition to have trailers on my media server without downloading shitty trailers.

I have trailers in plex from having a plex pass, but I like the option of having a local downloaded trailer as a backup as well or for using my media anywhere plex wont work.

I also switched from CP to Radarr and this feature is golden. I just realized recently that i was missing like 50% of the trailer for the latest movies, mostly for the lesser known once, a problem i never had before and I seriously thought it was because of my Plex Pass that I had all those trailers. But no, it was CP that got me all those trailers. Apparently also for movies that the Plex Pass didn't cover, so I guess they were using different sources. So this feature would be highly appreciated.

This is the one feature that prevents me from switching 100% from CouchPotato.

I'd love this as well

Plex has issues with .mov trailers. If/When this feature is added, it'd be nice to have an option to get mp4/mkv/avi trailers only.

has this been added yet? really looking to drop couchpotato but never without trailers

No i don’t think so, looking forward to for quite some time. But believe me, radarr is already so much more reliable then couchpotato ever was. For me at least.
I switched from Sickrage/Couchpotato to Sonarr/Radarr and don’t look back anymore.

I wrote a bash post-processing script that "usually" works, if anyone has use of it. The script polls TMDB for a YouTube trailer and tries to download. Currently it does not check for existing trailers or confirm if a trailer is even found on TMDB before attempting download. Proceed at your own risk. That said, you can find it here: https://github.com/hikaricore/bash_scripts/blob/master/trailer.sh

+1 from me. Finally decided to try Radarr as an alternative to Couch Potato. Really liking most things about it so far, but really bummed about downloaded movie trailers not being a feature. Also noticed that pre-existing movie trailers I already had don't even show up in the list of files for managed movies in Radarr. Super disappointing. Haven't decided whether this will prevent leaving Couch Potato entirely, but I really would miss that feature.

That being said, I also agree that there should be a way to search for "missing" trailers. Couch Potato did a great job of finding them for movies that were first added, but has no way of searching for them after-the-fact. So I have no easy way to see which movies I'm missing trailers for and no easy way to search those that are missing.

Any update on the auto download of trailer request?

I mean if we have to crowdfund this idea, I'll put in 100$

can this option be added in the aphrodite branch?

Sure, eventually. But it's not on top of the list right now

In the meantime I updated my post-processing script here: https://github.com/hikaricore/bash_scripts/blob/master/trailer.sh

There was an issue with the Google (YouTube) API that I never bothered to fix, but commented out in my local setup. This change is now in the linked script as well. It's still not the best, but it does the trick. 9 out of 10 times if a trailer exists and it is linked on TheMovieDB you get one. The other times where the trailer is gone, region locked, or broken in some other way it simply and quietly (aside from a kind printf for logging purposes) fails. Depending on your individual configuration, your mileage may vary. Enjoy.

P.S. You should probably get your own API keys to future proof your setup. <3

I download plenty of releases that come with trailers included, the only thing I need is to be able to pull these trailers in as I already do srt and nfo files. This thread is almost 4 years old, why is this not done yet?

I see a perfectly find script provided above.

It has not been done because other priorities are above this.

Asking for updates, why something isn't done, etc... is 1) non-productive; 2) spammy; 3) may or may not result in certain features being pushed even further down the to-do list; and 4) when there are updates an update will be posted.

If you want it now, feel free to make a PR for it and get your hands dirty.

The provided script is irrelevant since it doesn't pull trailers from downloads, it relies on youtube-dl and ffmpeg.
Asking questions is likely to get things pushed down the list? That is such a petty thing to say, especially since asking questions is how we learn.
Why would I make a PR for it, am I a developer for this, no I am not, I am just a user, who doesn't know the coding, asking a legitimate question to try and understand why this hasn't been done yet, when there are obviously so many people who want this.

The reason I am asking is because it seems, to my non programmer mind, that it would be along the same lines as the code for adding the nfo and srt files, and then renaming the files to "trailer.ext" instead of "movie title.ext" as it does with subtitles, but I wouldn't know, thus my question "why hasn't this been done yet?"

@spolen88 since you are not a developer, you can simply 👍 and hit the subscribe button near the top of this issue. That way when this is implemented you will be notified. It doesn't help anyone asking for timelines on features especially because this app is worked on in peoples own free time. Please take this advice to other FOSS applications you may use like Sonarr too.

If you're using a service like Plex, the paid subscription version (or the Lifetime Pass) does this for you automatically. It was worth a one-time purchase for this feature, as I no longer have to worry about storing files locally, make sure they are named and organized, etc. Just a thought. If I were still doing it manually, I could see the bonus of having Radarr handle the digital organization for me. But, it's of pretty low priority, I think. PS - Props to v3, it's amazing!
