In my setup I have usb headset which I use when calling and speakers for other things.
I would like to hear notifications like ringtone through speakers but still use headset as voice call output without switching audio device in settings.
Solution is two separate fields in audio settings for notifications and voice output.
Any other application supports it? Seems like over kill of settings panel for me.
@agilob That's the wrong question. It would be a nice feature and I can imagine a few people finding this useful. Anyway, this should be optional (off by default). Of course this would be a bit more work, than just simply adding another selector for ouput device and we need to first finish the current a/v issues, before thinking about this -> in some future version.
How many people would actually use this every day?
Adding too many things to the settings costs valuable pixel real estate and risks introducing new bugs.
@tux3 Even if only a few people can make use of it, why not providing a useful feature? You're right, that risk of breaking stuff is high at the moment. If you ask me, I would "ignore" this by now and address the discussion to some future version where a/v core has matured a bit more than today.
@agilob Skype and Linphone supports it. But yes, there are a lot of much more important tasks.

I would certainly love to have the notifications and the call as separate devices, since it allows me to turn down my notifications so that they don't cover things up, without having the call be so quiet I can't hear it over background noise.
Jabber VoIP supports this also, and is a great feature. My computer loudspeaker rings, and I answer on my headset, a very good feature.
