Prusa-firmware-buddy: [BUG] Confirmation for color change filament unload

Created on 26 Mar 2021  路  3Comments  路  Source: prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy

Please, before you create a new bug report, please make sure you searched in open and closed issues and couldn't find anything that matches.

Printer type - [MINI]

Printer firmware version- [4.3.1]

Original or Custom firmware [Original]

Optional upgrades - [Filament Runout Sensor]

USB drive or USB/Octoprint - [USB]

Describe the bug
If i add a color change in PrusaSlicer the MINI is doing an unload of the filament and then asks me if the unload was successful.

How to reproduce
Add a color change in PrusaSlicer

Expected behavior
If the color change GCODE is reached, my MINI should ask if i want to do the unload now and waiting for my confirmation. I want this behavior because i am not at the printer all the time. And if the unload is done unattended then the filament is not wound up properly.

I've have the exact same gripe with my MINI when doing color layered prints.

Maybe there is a reason for the immediate unload? I know it's not recommended to keep filament loaded for too long while the hot end is heating and not printing, as this can sometimes cause clogs.

So maybe the behaviour could be changed to:

  1. Reach the color change. Keep heating the hot end (at 170 degrees to prevent oozing).
  2. Keep filament loaded and wait a few minutes in case the user notices the printer has stopped and can perform the color change (this would cover my case as I'd notice the printer beeping within 5 minutes most of the time). The user would need to confirm before filament is unloaded.
  3. If the user does not do anything and the timeout elapses, cool down the hot end to prevent clogs, but keep filament loaded.
  4. When the user comes back, he's prompted to perform the color change. Hot end heats back up and the normal filament change procedure runs as usual (starting with filament unload).
  5. Print resumes printing with the new color.

Hi @Chips83 thank you for your suggestion but this is not a bug, this is enhancement.

I vote for this ! :)
