cant add the logs because it creates 75mb+ big files which I can't upload here
Uplay is updating to the newest version and then does not open
Assassins Creed Rogue:
Start the Game without any additional launch options.
Anno 2070:
Install the game, apply the workaround (replace the Anno5.exe and autopatcher.exe with the ones from version 92) to bypass the "black box" activation screen.
Proton needs to be rebased on a newer Wine version, see:
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/1757#issuecomment-447555735
Thx for the info. any news on when will it happen?
I hope soon now Wine 4.0 is released.
Now that you can add non-steam games to run with proton, might it be possible in the future to add a Ubisoft game and play it?
Since when I try now, just nothing happens. :D
But GOG games work mostly fine. ;)
Uplay stoped to work after the patch to correctly reconize Steam install, from the bug #1735.
This is an issue that will be fixed with time alone, since it's fixed in Wine and Valve will eventually rebase Proton on top of a newer version of Wine.
Please retest with 3.16-7, Valvesoftware/wine@1e69daf is supposed to help with it.
@nsivov This did not help. I tested it with Assasins Creed Odyssey.
I cleaned my wine prefix.
On first launch of the game, Uplay starts and downloads an update. After the update is done, the Uplay window closes and never opens again. Same problem as before.
@Bleuzen, ok, I'll retest that one too, I believe it worked as well when I was testing this fix. Just tried with Rayman Legends that also triggers same Uplay update behaviour, and it works fine.
Same problem here; tested it with new installed Anno 2070 applied first the activation screen workaround (anno5.exe and autopatcher.exe from version 92), then it's updating through all the uplay versions and after the newest, the window did not open again
Anno 2070 does not work at all for me, its own launcher reports failure first, then Uplay updates about 3 times to some version that's definitely not recent, and stays on it, reporting connection failure on logging in.
Starting game again after that open its own patcher, that does not advance. Assuming that's what workarounds you mentioned are for, but that has to be resolved first before addressing next problem.
It may be fixed with 3.16-7, but it may be true that there went something wrong at Valve and Proton 3.16-7 is still 3.16-6, see:
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/2337#issuecomment-464346718
Edit:
It works now with Proton 3.16-7. But Proton 3.16 Beta needs to be reinstalled.
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/2337#issuecomment-464346793
The Game is now finally starting but now I get an infinite activation loop
Edit: I reinstalled the game now when the game wants to reboot (addon activation/download) and i click on reboot now the game only closes and do not start the autopatcher.exe so i cant update nor playing the game.
Uplay problem confirmed solved in 3.16-7 beta. Now it recognize Steam and launches perfectly.
@Shatrico your problem is not related to Proton itself, is a very known bug in Anno 2070, that is present in Windows too. Specific workarounds are needed, like download the *92 version in another way and replace the game content.
I cannot confirm issue solved. Maybe im doing something wrong? I manually redownloaded proton 3.16-7 and applied the fix for anno 2070. But uplay updates a few times and does not open anymore. Could it be that it interferes with another uplay instance installed through lutris?
Anno 2070 is broken for me too, it doesn't update up to latest Uplay as far as I can tell. So it's not a fair comparison to other titles. Additional "fix" for game itself suggests that something else could be broken too. It would be helpful to test if any other Uplay game that's known to work, works for you.
Unless you shared prefixes somehow, other wine builds or prefixes do not affect ones managed by Steam client.
@mokman @nsivov this bug is related to Uplay itself, what is totaly solved now (at least in my tests). Your Anno 2070 problem is beacuse this Anno ships with a very old and creepy version of Uplay with a custom updater. To solve it, you need to manually download the *92 version binaries, that can be found on this link.
I don't think this way is totally legal, but is the only way to play Anno 2070 in Wine or Windows today (thanks for the very bad support Ubisoft!). A solution should be Valve ship the updated version, eliminating the need to updated the game in the client side.
Another not so legal solution is to download the full updated version from a torrent and replace the game content inside the Steam folder.
i downloaded the one from your link but its not working. He is not starting the autopatcher. via lutris he is starting the autopatcher but he dont download anything
My personal workaround for Anno 2070:
Also, for Anno 2205 and The Settlers 7, the shipped Uplay works fine, without tricks.
Sounds like it's time for this issue report to be closed and and a compatibility report opened for Anno 2070 to track the newly exposed followup issue. Alternatively, we could adjust this issue report to be for Anno 2070 as that appears to be the only game affected now. Any preference from a Proton dev?
My personal workaround for Anno 2070:
* I used protontricks to install a newer version of Uplay in prefix;
could you please specify how exactly you did that?
i tried protontricks --guiand installed uplay from there, but with no success.

sorry to get further off-topic, but you seem to be the only one who could help me getting anno2070 running. uplay is fine now but the game wants to reboot after start. i tried now three different AutoPatcher.exe files without success. is there a way to run the offlinepatcher inside that proton prefix?

You have the Deep Ocean installed, don't you? So, I think, the only real solution is the main not-so-legal solution, that is to manual download all the Anno 2070: Deep Ocean files from a pirate link (like the described in Lutris forum or a torrent) and replace the entry content of the game folder in your steam library. It's sad, but the only solution as Ubisoft gives a very bad support for this Anno game.
