All games here are tested and found to be running near perfectly under Lutris Wine Steam runner with Wine staging-3-17 and esync-staging-pba-3.18

EDIT:

Its have a high possibility of upstream bug. I tested Storm 4 using Lutris and wine 3.16 crashes with page fault error, and wine 3.7 crashes with dx11 error

There is something happening with Storm 1 and 3 in Proton 3.16-3 beta. It doesn't crash anymore, but then there is DirectInput prompt, which I can't do anything about because I have no controller. Storm 4 and 2 still crashes though

EDIT: For some reason the game thinks Wacom Intuos tablet as joystick, so it displays the DirectInput prompt. All games still crashes

Storm 3 Full Burst is the sole one I own and it still crashes for me. The HD version still manages to go up to the Bandai screen at the start, but crashes. The default non HD version reports missing mono, but the general solution used of setting OS to Windows XP to cause .NET Framework to install, or even installing it with winetricks, generates other crashing reasons.

Any log file for Storm 3 HD crash?

On WineHQ's AppDB the last report is exactly like mine above: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=29296. It looks like it worked before, many reports on that, but not now anymore.

which is the same as Storm 4

Unfortunately on your linked AppDB there is no log provided by the reporter, but from my Lutris test Storm 3 does works, and with that memcpy crash I think that the same bug crashes all Storm games.

If you have Lutris installed, you can play Storm 3 HD using Wine Steam runner, but be warned that the input is broken. DirectInput mapping sometime works for some joysticks, but even if it works in that setting page, in gameplay some button presses are not registered, and x360ce doesn't work for some reason. Keyboard input is not working at all. That's why I'm waiting until this bug is resolved because

Improved game controller support: games will automatically recognize all controllers supported by >Steam. Expect more out-of-the-box controller compatibility than even the original version of the game.

@minecraft2048 ok thanks, I'm not planning to install Lutris :-/

Some good news!
I've have regained control of my controller and Storm 1 input works perfectly without DirectInput prompt screen, without any crashes. But when I go to battle mode it crashes.... :-1:

For now I can't verify whether all button input works, but if it doesn't crash, Proton is better than upstream Wine in this case
steam-495140.log

The page fault error still persist though

I've noticed that now the page fault error comes from 1 0x00007fec13a51248 MSVCRT_memcpy+0x57() in msvcrt (0x00000000373ee7d0) instead of dxvk

More debugging work:

In Lutris although Wine 3.16 crashes Wine 3.15 doesn't, that means that we can probably bisect away the offending patch and get all those games running temporarily until Valve rebases Wine to 3.18

Everytime I try to compile Wine from wine-git repo and run Windows Steam from there it also crashes with the same error, while using the same Steam installation and wineprefix using precompiled Wine from Lutris it works

More debugging work:

@minecraft2048 which game/specific behavior are you referencing here? I'm a bit confused since this bug is for 4 titles .

And it is broken only with wine 3.16 and fixed with wine 3.18?

@alasky17 All games in this bug report have the same page fault problem, so if one of the game crashes all of the games crashes. I say that because with me testing multiple Wine versions in Lutris either all of them works or none of them works

I also noticed that all of upstream Wine versions that I have compiled by myself also have the same segfault problem, but with wine-staging patch it doesn't, after I've finished compiling wine 3.21-staging I can give you the Lutris versions where the games runs nearly perfectly and where the games crashes

EDIT: staging-3.16 from Lutris doesn't crash Storm 4, while vanilla 3.16 crashes Storm 4 with page fault

@minecraft2048 thank you for the clarification!

so Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 Game Works Proton Via Lutris and not Proton Via Steam
So think i steam has a problem

Current workaround for running all Naruto games:
Install Wine 3.21-staging and Windows Steam, and use x360ce to bypass ingame dodgy DirectInput setting screen. The staging is important, as even Wine 3.21 without staging patch doesn't work, it crashes with the same page fault error. I think one of those staging patches fixes it, but I don't know which one, as wine staging changes the makefiles and it makes git bisect doesn't work as it will fail to compile

I've tried all Naruto games in this bug report and if the necessary patches are in, I think that these games are whitelist ready.

0001-windowscodecs-Implement-conversion-to-32bppRGBA.txt

This fix the start up crash for NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 2. I will submit to upstream when winehq accepts this patch.

I haven't got time to test other versions. And it seems that keyboard doesn't work for the moment. I don't know if keyboard works on Windows. It needs a controller to work properly. Need to do more testing. If anyone can test if crashes with other versions are fixed by this, I would really appreciate it.

Turns out wine-staging had a more complete 32bppRGBA patch, let's use that one then. https://github.com/wine-staging/wine-staging/tree/master/patches/windowscodecs-32bppPRGBA

@zzhiyi Does your patch or wine-staging patch builds against Proton wine version?

@zzhiyi Does your patch or wine-staging patch builds against Proton wine version?

Yes, if I remember correctly. If it doesn't apply cleanly, you should be able apply it manually. It is not much changes really.

Ahh too bad, I can't even compile vanilla Proton and make it run because of wine version mismatch

wine client error:0: version mismatch 573/568.
Your wine binary was not upgraded correctly,

@zzhiyi I can now compile Proton using the workaround in https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/2253 or using Vagrant, but then I got stuck by this: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/2263 which breaks any self compiled Proton using the latest git version

@zzhiyi Your patch at https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/103#issuecomment-453125969 fixes this bug, as after I use the workaround described at https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/2263#issuecomment-460105723 to compile Proton Wine with your patch all of the Naruto games in this report doesn't crash anymore, and is very playable with controller. Keyboard input is still broken though, but that is upstream Wine staging problem.

If I use https://github.com/wine-staging/wine-staging/tree/master/patches/windowscodecs-32bppPRGBA by running ./patches/patchinstall.sh DESTDIR=../../Proton/wine/ windowscodecs-32bppPRGBA Wine Proton have compilation error:

After upgrading to the newest proton version (3.16-7) ultimate ninja storm 3 works! :)

Just make sure you download proton 3.16 beta through the tools menu.

Same problem with STORM 4 by the way.

Thanks for looking at this!

Possibly a video driver specific issue? Does adding PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% to the game's launch options make a difference?

@fosspill, what video card / driver are you using?

Is there something I can do to force 3.16-7 to arrive? I'm stuck at 3.16-6 and checking for client updates didn't provide results. I'm not participating on client beta programs anymore though.

@oblitum Go to Tools then install proton 3.16 beta. That forces 3.16-7 to arrive :)

OK thanks for the help. I dunno what happened, the version number simply changed after I closed the client and opened it again.

Sadly, looks like the update didn't fix anything for me, same behavior as before.

Possibly a video driver specific issue? Does adding PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% to the game's launch options make a difference?

I tried that one, also PROTON_NO_D3D11, but it didn't work. It did prevent the error from popping up though, but aside from that the game doesn't start.

If it helps, it seems like this issue also happens on Windows machines for some users, but they can sometimes fix it by setting the windows compatbility mode to Windows 7

For me with Proton 3.16-7 it still crashes with page fault error, but with self compiled Proton 3.16-6 with @zzhiyi patch all of them works. Both native libraries and Steam Runtime crashes.

EDIT: Turns out that bug https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/6093 causes the game to run at 3.16-6 instead of 3.16-7, and using the steam tools workaround to force download 3.16-7 does fix the page fault problem. @oblitum use @fosspill workaround to make sure that your 3.16-7 is actually real, if this page fault problem is fixed then we can move on the the lower priority bug of keyboard input not working (who plays this game with keyboard anyway?)

Same here, download proton 3.16 beta using Library -> Tools to force update to 3.16-7 fix my problem.

How is ultimate ninja storm 4 ?

How is ultimate ninja storm 4 ?

It works with 3.16-7 for me, I have played about 1 hour with that. Multiplayer isn't tested yet, and keyboard input doesn't work.

Alright next on the list is marvel vs Capcom infinite, injustice 2, Street fighter v for fixes

@minecraft2048 oh, thanks, the game finally starts!

I didn't expect I had to force download the "real" 3.16-7 Proton on Library->Tools, first time doing that, at first I thought I had to do that from the Steam Play Settings menu, and there Proton was already listed as 3.16-7. This is kinda buggy.

Anyway, thanks!

I have ultimate ninja storm 3, only HD version works, as stated before. But sadly, the game is too slow motion for Intel HD Graphics 630 (7700k), can't play it :-(, it can be played fine on Windows on the same machine.

This issue has been solved for me after I installed the xf86-video-amdgpu and vulkan-radeon packages. I guess the last one was the vulkan driver that was missing on my system? Now the game starts but crashes after the initial loading screen, an issue which I see with a lot more users @ protondb.com.

I can confirm now that the game not only loads now but I can also play it at perfect FPS with beta 3.16-7

Controller works & audio works too in both version 3 and 4 of the game. Even my Windows cloud savegames were correctly loaded. For now I only tested up to one battle.

Keyboard doesn't work well, even on Windows. Some of the key presses can't be detected. Page fault fix is upstreamed in 3.16-7.

I'd like to report consistent crashes with UNS 4. See https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/2389

UNS 3 works fine though, been playing it for hours already, multiple game modes. The only annoying issue with it is that the standby modus of my monitor isn't blocked and activates after x minutes (KDE Plasma)

Hello @IsaakGroepT, because there's a behavioral difference between Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 and the rest of the series, please open a separate issue report and we'll stop tracking the fourth game here.

@kisak-valve actually the first game is Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm: https://steamdb.info/app/495140/ not Storm Revolution, and unfortunately I don't have that game so I can't test that right now

Good Days, i tested naruto 1 all good for the moment, 9 hours time played, naruto shippuden 2 all good except between naruto and orochimaru, in the beginning of the fight the game crashed, and always happen, i begin the session with windows for proceed this fight and later working all for me, i pass the history and i make 13 hours for this

Hello @jomarocas, same as the request to @IsaakGroepT, please open a new compatibility report for the crashing game and we'll stop tracking it here. It would be nice if you can get a Proton log of the game crashing.

I have this game and I wouldn't mind testing out a fix is there is one available.
Below is my generated PROTON_LOG after running the game with version 3.17.9

Hello @Sickday, can you grab a Proton log with Proton 4.2-3? Looks like you hit err:mscoree:CLRRuntimeInfo_GetRuntimeHost Wine Mono is not installed in your log.
