PHP 8.0 is out in December and PrestaShop needs to be compatible.
Before the new major version of PHP is released the master
/nighty
build of PHP can be used for testing.

I think it will be harder than with PHP 7.4 though, since it's a major version they may remove deprecated code and introduce a lot of breaking changes.
But of course we'll keep a close eye as they release more information about what it will change.
