Powertoys: Mapping "Menu" Doesn't Work

Created on 8 Jul 2020  路  14Comments  路  Source: microsoft/PowerToys

Environment

Windows build number: Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19041.329]
PowerToys version: v.0.19.1
PowerToy module for which you are reporting the bug (if applicable): Keyboard Manager

Steps to reproduce

Add a remap entry for "Menu" to "Print Screen" (or similar), then try.

Expected behavior

I would expect the print screen button to be "pressed" when the menu was pressed.

Actual behavior

Nothing happens. Nothing shows on on-screen keyboard either.

@ I can't repro this. I tried this same mapping and it worked for me. On-screen keyboard only shows when modifiers are pressed down I believe. Can you try updating your PT and seeing if this is still the case?

This issue has been automatically marked as stale because it has been marked as requiring author feedback but has not had any activity for 5 days. It will be closed if no further activity occurs within 5 days of this comment.

I will follow up later this week when I have my keyboard once again. It is at another location.

I just confirmed that it is still not working for me. v0.19.2. Maybe this is specific to the "menu" key? The key that brings up the menu as if you had right clicked.

Wanted to follow up as I haven't heard anything back. Would appreciate the help!

@hv-noahlschneider and @noahlschneider, I did not notice these were the same person, so sorry about the long delay! I'm still not sure why this is happening and we're not able to get a repro here. @arjunbalgovind, can you repro this?

Can you try the following:

  1. does remapping the menu key to another key work?
  2. does remapping to print screen from another key work?
  3. fresh install of 0.20.1

Sorry yes I have one github for work & one github for personal but occasionally login with the other one on accident!
Here is what happened with what you asked me to try:

  1. Does not work, tried remapping to backspace & it did nothing.

  2. Does not work, tried remapping print-scrn to backspace.

Now that I'm testing, it appears the remapping is not working for me at all. I tried a few other rempapings & none of them worked... Could this be because I'm running Powertoys as admin but other apps are running as non admin?

So I tried testing it using powershell as admin & it still didn't work. I also tried running Powertoys not as admin & nothing worked then either. I also tried using my external keyboard & my laptop keyboard. So I guess the keyboard remapping is not working for me at all. The only thing that I can think that might be blocking this is my corporate antivirus... Any other ideas?

Can you try a basic remapping like A to B to confirm that keyboard remapping is not working at all for you?

Just tried it, my A key just did nothing after the remap.

@hv-noahlschneider does PowerToys Run work for you i.e. does the Alt+Space shortcut work? And what about shortcut guide? Trying to identify if the issue is related to another issue where some users mentioned that none of the PowerToys which use keyboard hooks were working for them.

Yes, PowerToys Run does work:

Yes, Shortcut guide works as well although I'm having trouble capturing that screen.

hi @hv-noahlschneider @noahlschneider, is keyboard manager still not working? can you try the latest. We've made some fixes and hope they've solved this

I actually no longer have a PC, you can disregard.
