Powertoys: Implement more taskbar customization features with FalconX as a PowerToy

Created on 19 Dec 2019  路  5Comments  路  Source: microsoft/PowerToys

Summary of the new feature/enhancement

This feature would help users to have more customization options for their taskbars without any dangerous registry editing tools etc. It allows users to position their taskbar icons in the center of the taskbar similar to the dock approach on other OS.

It also allows the user to customize the look and feel of the taskbar's background with options like transparent background, blurred background or acrylic background.

This will bring a lot of joy to some group of users who always look for more ways to customize their desktop experience.

See here:

I don't know how big of a problem the paid Store release is since the actual tool is open source.

Thanks a lot already

More taskbar control in general would also be useful.

  • Have a two-line clock on my second status bar (time on primary monitor, time+date on secondary); DisplayFusion allows this
  • ability to pin different icons to different taskbars. (DisplayFusion has this)
  • Move icons pinned on secondary taskbar monitor to the opposite end (ie, left-pinned on primary, right-pinned on secondary)
  • Resize/reshape the tray overflow menu (make it short and wide, not square)
  • Make the tray overflow menu __ALWAYS__ show up on top of other items. Yes, I mean that notifications/toasts from other windows should not be able to pop up on top of it, especially not when it has mouse focus.
  • Reduce the width of icons pinned to the taskbar when the corresponding application is closed

    • opened applications are wide like usual, but closed applications should be as close together as tray icons currently are

I like the idea and I use two another open-source plugin to custom my taskbar now.

One is CenterTaskbar. The project is here https://github.com/mdhiggins/CenterTaskbar, the project is a .net framework project. I really hope this function can be added into the powertoys
I don't know anything about .net or I will try to make a PR :)

Another one is taskbar translucent, here
https://github.com/TranslucentTB/TranslucentTB
it still a opensource project.

THIS! Also, I would vote for adding an option to open pinned item with a double click instead one (to avoid accidental clicks)
